This is starting to pi$$ me off, my knee is.

Here's a brief recap of whats gone before: Years ago, bike accident,
leg smashed, knee poorly, IM nailed, nail collapsed damaging knee
more, knee clicked like buggery, but *was* stable and quite strong.

Approx 5 weeks ago I had keyhole surgery so the consultant could
"look around". He removed scar tissue, smoothed back of knee cap
(was gouged when bolts holding IM nail broke 1.5 years ago) and
    that was it.

A week later knee sort of bends outwards (sideways) and it obviously
didn't like this, objecting in the most strongest terms for a week
and it still hurts now. Went to A&E and been seen by consultant since
who says its nothing to worry about, X-ray doesn't show anything
    moved or broke.

Problem is the knee is now like a collection of bones in a skin bag,
with very little in the way of anything holding anything else in
place. Loose as ****. I have to wear a knee brace all the time and
use a crutch. It feels like its going to just collapse anyway it can,
in any direction. And its tried to a few times.

What the hell's he done in there? Its completely useless as it is.
Is there any exercises I can do to improve things? If I did badly
pull something in the knee is it possible it'd make it this bad?

Over the past 2 weeks it hasn't really improved at all.

Any ideas? Apart from kill someone(s) and build a trike? :-\

Have you not seen a Physio ? After a knee op it should be mandatory. I
recently had keyhole on min and my leg lost 20% muscle which took me 6
weeks of phsyio to get to 9% less than the other leg.

Work on your quads (not honda), they help to stabilise the knee joint and
get to see a physio who will assess you and give you specific advice,
    especially if you go private.

Is that Blackberry? They're top people, sorted my back out once when
I was _crippled_. Like you say, they're expensive - but they really
    do know their stuff.

    Best of luck, big fella.

Have you got qualified second opinion on your injury and treatment?

Personally, if i was made an invalid as a result of a knee or ankle
injury i'd seriously consider having it amputated. Prothstetics these
    days are very good.

Get the forms for a Yellow Badge now.

Only kill them if they won't cut out the crap bits and give you one of
them carbon/titanium ones like what you have seen on Tomorrow's World.

    Of course.

over a year now. But thanks anyway :)
Kill them and transplant their good knee?

Not as such. Wanted to but the timescales of doing it non-private
    are bloody stupid:-

    Go see GP
    Get referred for second opinion
    Referral goes before NHS board
Who sit on it for a few months
    Then approve it
Then wait a few more months to see the 2nd opinion consultant.

I asked at Oxford when I was down there for the wrist but they
are *very* reluctant to examine closely another consultants
work. I guess they think it'll be seen as criticising anothers
work if they do look at it to see if anythings wrong. Bloody
    stupid though.

I'm expecting a reasonable lump sum sometime this week, and when
that appears I'll be going private for physio and to get a second
opinion (including MRI scan of the knee if necessary) and for any
op thats needed on the knee. Its also keeping me alive when I'm
off from Feb ~ April with the Ilzarov frame doing its stretchy
    thing.

Yup, this last op and aftercare (or lack of) has put me off my
current consultant. Even if it was my fault for trying to do too
    much too soon.
    I have been warned.

You know its going to be really bad when the doctors & nurses tell you
you won't be able to do anything for the time you're being stretched
because of the bad pain! And these people are the "This won't hurt a
bit" bunch as they have you screaming in the hospital bed.

*But* to get rid of build up shoes and crutches and potential back
    problems [1], its worth it.

[1] Real life hip pain is here now when I climb up stairs, so god
knows what it'll be like in 25 years time.

Anyway, fuggit, I'm off home in half an hour for a long bath and some
    alcohol :)

Don't let them **** you around, mate.

When I had all the faffing with my (far less serious) collar-bone, the
main guy was on the British Olympic Procrastination squad; didn't want to
do **** all in any time like soon.

Went to my GP, insisted on 2nd opinion, heard nothing for two weeks,
chased via GP, spoke to hospital, got 2nd opinion after four weeks.

2nd guy disagreed with first, op done, job's a good-un.

Sounds good. Cheers big man, I'll book a visit to me GP.

Got a nice little cheque for £20k yesterday as well, second interim
payment. All of its earmarked for things [1] though, so rather than
buy toys we went down to the pub :)

[1] Like 3 months lost pay next year, private physio, 2nd opinions and
possible ops, and if that doesn't eat it there's the credit cards to
    start paying off.

Spoke to a bloke at work today who had his knee sorted out, and the
surgeon has since retired but he gave me this - http://kneeguru.co.uk/
    which has specialist surgeons listed.
