Any tips for boosting the headlight output on the Nordie?

Took it for MOT today (passed). On the way back in the dark I was able
to quadruple its light output by taping my mobile to the headlight
glass. Not very practical as the phone kept switching the backlight off
to save power.

I'm not intending to ride it by night much, especially after I've seen
how dim its glim is.

Is the 'silvering' on the reflector OK?

I never checked, but presumably it has got a standard 60/55 H4 bulb in
it. Could try a Xenon or other high output replacement I suppose. The
special bulbs I got for the MX5 have improved that.

I never rode any of my Nordies much at night. TBH I haven't ridden any
bike at night much for years except on Pahnd Island jaunts. The 'tart'
is particularly dire on dipped beam.

I had a look at the reflector and it's got hardly any silver left on it.
I'm surprised it passed the MOT.

Just got to decide what colour to paint it...

 

Oops. It's a pretty standard CEV unit IIRC. Should be able to pick one
up off Ebay OK. I think it's the same as on the GFRs.

Heh, even sporting a rack now I see.
