No. The torque=power/revs relationship is there by definition, so
cannot change with engine type or configuration.

    <Re-reads>

Hang on, what you talking about? 'The ratio of rpm at max torque... '
    to what, exactly?

You imagine correctly. Well, partially so, except you added another
typo just to be true to form :)

Dunno why, but after a week on the bike, my hands, and possibly my
brain, just don't seem to be able to get the hang of this 'keyboard'
    thang.

Yeah, and that doesn't make my life any easier because:

I fancied the S (after seeing serf's one)
I wanted something a little nearer
I really wanted one with a little digital clock thingy :)
I may have to deliver the Bandit to Princes Risborough
I would see your Zephyr and want that instead

Why do all bikes look great in the photos, but on closer inspection (100
    yards) they look terrible?

Think I got spoilt with the Bandit... it was pristine and still is.

  10. The S seems a lot rarer than the unfaired version.
Heh, I had to collect the TS50 from Humberside
This need not be an insurmountable problem ;)
I could meet you at Risborough (if you are really interested)
Unfortunately I doubt it, as I have found out today that I can't tax it till
the log book comes through, and that may take up to 6 weeks.
Same with my CB, it was in very good nick when I bought it, and apart from
the engine paint blistering a bit, it still is.

Well it seems to be accepted wisdom that V-twins rev lower then
triple, which in turn rev lower than inline fours. So they reach
max. torque at respective lower rpm. Let's say the V-twin has 100 bhp
(74.57 kW) and provides max. torque at 4000 rpm and the inline four
has 120 bhp (89.484 kW) with max. torque at 6000 rpm. That would mean
that the max torque of the V-twin is higher by a factor of 1.25.

No it wouldn't. Max torque is not generally reached at the same revs
as max power, so no such conclusion can be drawn. One would have to
study the curves (fnaar) in any individual comparison.

I'm not complaining - Si said he thought it sounded odd, I said I
thought it sounded OK. Funny idle, though.
yeah, whatever - I'm not in any way displeased with the bike.
I like it - it sounds like an engine.

you might be able to help with a slight problem though.

I left the keys in the ignition, turned on, from Sunday lunchtime
until Monday morning, when the battery was understandably flat. So, I
    stuck it on the Optimate.

However, although the battery appears to be taking a charge OK, I
can't seem to get the alarm/immobiliser to respond i.e. the bike is
    permanently in immobilised mode.

Is there any special trick to get it to play ball after a battery
    disconnect/discharge?
