Never did get to ride yours, but I really doubt the above. Between 1
and 4k in any of the bottom three gears would still produce a
kick-in-the-pants acceleration. Even in higher gears, there's so much
torque it'll pull happily from those revs, although perhaps not quite
so well as, say, the rocket3, where peak power comes on at about
    2500rpm...

So what engines give the most flexible power or "even torque", by this I
mean is it; V twins, large fours parallel twins, triples and what engine
    size?

Someone enlighten me please, I have only ridden a CG125, ER-5 and GSF 600
so not too technical now ;-)

eh? I guess it's all relative. I'm amazed that the gixxer will pull
top gear cleanly from tickover. As Ace says, it's certainly got
plenty in the lower gears under 4k.

Large capacity four cylinder engines generally have the broadest, most
    evenly spread power characteristics.

simply speaking, "there's no substitute for cubes". Larger capacity
engines give more power. Forced induction also gives more power i.e.
turbo or supercharging or ram air.

Twins are sometimes described as "more torquey than 4s", but it isn't
really the case - they just make their peak power at lower RPMs.

I figured you'd both dispute that from previous postings but if I crank the
throttle under 4k there's no burst of speed. I tried it after reading
threads between Ace and Ben before and I'm certianly happier keeping it at
    5-6 K/

It'll pull but there's no feelnig that you want to be _over there_ now.

I was going to mention, but forgot: it actually felt like the fuelling was
off or something - it sounded very gruff. But wibbleflipdibbledoo anyway

Ahem. Being pedantic here, but that's not strictly correct.

An engine making a given power at 2000rpm is, by definition,
developing much more torque than one developing the same power at
    4000rpm.

    torque = power / rpm

You'd need a good set of clip ons and rear sets for a start.

Been pondering this over lunch, and I reckon a 2 stroke running within a
small RPM range with variable but controllable inlet pressure would give
    the most consistent torque curve.

Dunno if such an engine has ever been build mind. Marine diesels?

it sounds funny at tickover, like it's running some sort of "big bang"
firing sequence, but I kind of like the sound it makes under
acceleration. Also, the RHS carbon fiber air intake tube thing is
loose - occasionally it slips off the front of the fairing and back
into the frame a bit - when this happens the air coming in the gap
makes a sort of violent farting sound - maybe this is what you heard.

Then again, it was built from a pile of spare parts by a Levellers
    fan, so who knows...

an electric engine gives the most consistent torque curve, as full
torque is available at 0 rpm.

Maybe I ought to rephrase or change my question:

What engines are the laziest and forgiving... sort of "boat like"
    characteristics?

Well yes, but that's not so much of a torque curve, more of a torque
    point.

I think you're asking which engine type cares least what gear you're
in. And this, of course, is dependent the actuall gearing you're
using (a short geared motor feels perkier).

But, on equal gearing, there's no substitute for cubes.

Byt with same cubes? What then?

Just had a thought (and confirmed with 7R loon bloke at work) - it doesn't
have flat s[l]ide carbs does it?
