Paging Norvern Monkeys - route advice

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by the man with no idea, Mar 13, 2007.

  1. I'm planning a ride from Lincolnshire up to Richmond to visit the
Altberg shop. I don't really fancy the section on the A1 from
Dishforth to Catterick. Anybody recommend some good biking routes in
    that area?

Depends what sort of bike your on, but this lane runs from Hawes, not
    far from Richmond.

Loads of trail bikers around, we went in Land Rovers & it was ace.

If not on a trailie, loads of great roads round there, come off the A1
at Boroughbridge (couple of junctions after the A59 Harrogate) & have
fun. You can criss-cross the A1, just open a map.

Ripon to Richmond? That's one of God's own motorcycling roads, that.
Has convenient villages too, so you can have a rest and relax your
fingers every fifteen minutes or so, before getting back into swoopy
    hoonery.

  7. Yebbut I won't have. I'll probably be going over t'umber bridge then
    up and across.
That was one of the routes I considered. What I really wanted was
somebody who'd actually ridden the roads to give me suggestions - like
    Pip frinstance.

Dinglyding. I'd go that route too. In fact, I used to go Manchester ->
Durham a fair bit, and that road usually featured.

  9. Cheers - now that's just the sort of info I'm looking for. I was also
toying with the idea of looking in at the Theakston's brewery at
Masham - which seems to be bang on the 6108.

Sort of ends the journey from a riding perspective though, and you need
a chair for the extra luggage after visiting the factory shoppe

  12. Baaa humbug. My bro-in-law did that tour and said it was crap -
although he's possibly more of a tool than I am. I love OP draught and
thinks it's fairly poor bottled so I'd like to see what it's like at
    source.

I support Paul Theakston, who when his family sold out to Scottish and
Newcastle had the nerve to start up on his own and continue the family
tradition. I don't feel the same way about his cousins who eventually
    bought back Theakstones.
