  2. It has been an interesting day and the only comment I can make is that
experience has already taught me that you have seriously overestimated
the intelligence and abilities of my clients.

  3. But who wants to go through a list of a zillion little apps at install
them, only some wierdy beardy types. To be fair to Red Hat there were
three options, Minimalist User Environbment, Web Developer and
    Programmer/Systems Developer.

  6. It's all about being bitten before see. I have had cause in the past to
not have gcc on the machine and go and get it only to find that there
are dependencies and stuff that a simple getting of gcc doesn't go
anywhere near far enough to in order to satisfy the snotty "and now this
one is missing" that that action only leads to. Nope I saw the error of
my ways and went back and took the full install as soon as I had my
first complaint about stuff still missing.

We have driver issues starting now I think. X windows falls over in
doing it's rc complaining there ain't no such driver as vmware. Hmmm.

I have to say, it's about a month since I last set up a Fedora VM, and I
had none of the problems you seem to be running in to.

  9. Go on - you know you want to try a modern linux disrto like Ubuntu..

It has a well thought-out install.

  11. I was musing along those general lines meself (not the Mad Max bits but
    the 'new UKRM meme' thang)
That one should be standard in any UKRM debate.

    <fx: holds head in hands>

Actually, last one from me: this one..

    http://xkcd.org/c275.html

.... actually happened. I was working at IBM in Greenock and going out with
a German bint I'd met there. Her parents came to visit and they couldn't
speak English and my German was (and still is) 'erratic'. So we're in that
shopping centre in Stirling, 'can't recall its name, and girl's father and
I go to lavvy. Cue surreal situation: we're standing there, and sort of
glance at one another. 'Ja?' 'Ja!!'

    And I couldn't 'perform'.

We came out, and I took Antje aside and said, 'I couldn't'. She asks why,
and I'm like, 'I couldn't stop thinking.. my dick has been inside your
    daughter.'

She gave me one of these withering looks...

.... and get pissed off 'cos you have to i) put the password in every five
minutes, and ii) repeat the 'sudo' bit if you do a typo.

I only use it on my Mac 'cos if I activate root, I get 'other' on the login
    window, which is ugly.

You do realise that being able to explain it that precisely
automatically means that "*you* are officially a neckbeardy *nix geek!"
