If I've read it correctly, they only mention DRIVERS.
Well bikes is ridden aint they, by RIDERS, so that makes us exempt ;-)

I'm not sure I understand your despair there. Is this a thank you to me
    for posting another pointless link?

Or are you referring to the beeb's subtitling of their images?

No. I read it all the way through (though the screens a bit greasy now
where I ran my finger along it) and followed up the link. The woman
who founded RoadPeace did it because her son was killed. And he was on
a motor bike. So maybe she's just out to get the drivers.
    The latter.

  6. "The maximum sentence for death by dangerous driving was raised from 10
    to 14 years"

What, exactly, is the fucking point of that? Unless the suggestion is
that people go out with the *intention* of causing death by dangerous
driving and the increased sentence might deter them.

It's not deterrence, it's revenge. I bet the Sun claims the credit, too.

Normally, I don't think that argument works. Harsher punishment just
makes not getting caught a more attractive proposition - the 30 years
given to the train robbers was the watershed that led to an increase in
    armed robbery and violent escape.

Although we're not dealing with crime with quite the same intentions I
believe it may lead to people to be less likely to hang around to face
    the music as it were.

What we need is some form of reliable; interlinked and accessible
    database of motorists.

  9. Castration would work out cheaper to the taxpayer. It's also ideally
suited to a "two strikes and you're out" implementation.

Actually, I should probably keep ideas like that to myself. I can see it
    happening one day.

The problem comes when too much reliance is placed on deterrence. It
only works on those potential criminals who take getting caught and
the consequences thereof into consideration beforehand.
