I haven't had time to measure it yet and I'm thinking of trying it on
    the commute.

It's got a 12l tank and I found one place that indicates circa 50mpg so
about 130 mile range - sound about right?

  2. That'll be brim-full to dry and empty.

Count on 100+ miles in the real world.

Don't bring it on a French rRun.

Fond though I am of adequate tank ranges, why the **** not? And yes, I'm
disregarding the old Sunday petrol chestnut.

Swot I'm thinking. That's two fillups per day (or lash a can on the
back), won't be using it that often.

As you might expect, it depends on wrist tension and load. A snippet
from my 'Postcard from Arcore'[1] write up in 94.

"The weather was no too bad at first, but by
the afternoon it was raining seriously and
the Nordie was battling against a strong
head wind as we headed for Dijon. I had
realised that frequent fuel stops would be
needed, but we welcomed them as an opportunity
to stretch our legs. At one stage range on a full
tank before going on to reserve was down to 145
    Kms !"

The 12 litres capacity, presumably includes the 2 litre reserve.
I suspect 45 mpg might be nearer the mark if ridden briskly and at
sustained motorway speeds (poor aerodynamics). You might consider going
up to a 15 on the gearbox sprocket if on a standard one[2]. Can't
remember counting the teeth on yours. Can you trust the odometer on that
weird speedo? You ought to be OK for at least 100 miles before needing
to find reserve (which is a bit of a pain, on the move, given the
    position of the rotary 'tap').

[1] Two up and carrying large throw-over panniers, swagman tank panniers
    and a tank bag.

[2] You can even get a 16 meant for a Saturno, but in standard tune I
doubt it would pull top on that.

After my aborted mission to do the French Run on a VMax, Mrs WUN went to
pick up what was left of my luggage from the recovery yard.

She was handed a bag that had been strapped behind me, with a cheery
    "Careful luv, that's quite heavy".

    5L of unleaded, it was...

Quite how I avoided going out in a blaze of glory still eludes me.

Er, no. The kms just jump about all over the place.
Well, if I do try it, I think I'll fill up at each end, which is 60
miles, so should be no danger of running onto reserve. I haven't quite
figured the fuel tap yet, in what I think is the reserve position, it
seems to suffer from fuel starvation at WFO.

In my AJS/Matchless days I had an alloy competition engined G80 with a
scrambles tank. Not a tremendous range, so I used to carry auxiliary
reserve in an old Castrol 2 litre oil can strapped behind the single
seat, on top of the mudguard, when doing road trials deep in to rural
    areas on Sundays.

Unfortunately, on one notorious occasion I had a head to head with a
5-barred iron gate[1] and ended up in Leicester Royal Infirmary. The
army surplus canvas bag containing the can was thrust in to the chest
alongside my bed. It had sustained a tiny crack in the encounter,
despite being wrapped in a sheet of foam rubber and so was gently oozing
Esso's finest. Fortunately I had stopped pissing blood by the next
morning and an Xray revealed nothing too amiss, so they discharged me
    before the fumes became noticeable.

[1] A gated road only signed as such at one (the other and 'wrong' as
far as I was concerned) end.

Hmm. I don't remember taking the tank off, but you know old gimmers'
short term memory lapses. I do know that the previous owner had to have
a new tank (filler neck broken off probably). Make sure the extra small
tap (linked to the main one by a pipe) on the other side is open. Also,
that the pipes are on the correct spigots on the main tap. Can't
remember for sure, but I'm guessing that the cross link pipe should go
    on the upper one.

When we had our little BMW car v BMW outfit duel on the autobahn last
year we had 25l of finest unleaded strapped to the back of the chair.
When you consider that the car was fighting with the chair for a few
yards the possibility of sparks was quite high, as was the possibility
of the jetty can getting squashed.
We had Platy on a mission to thank for us avoiding becoming a 70mph
    barbie.

After seeing Platy's hand's shaking at this years Elefant I'm surprised
you hadn't head butted the central reservation all by yourselves.
Although I suppose last year he wasn't trying to keep up with a girl old
    enough to be his daughter.
