and yet I still can out think you any time I bother. Hell I had an
irish setter who had more intelligence and cognative ability than
    you've ever demonstrated.

You are correct...I know the GL1000 had one from the day they were
introduced in 1975. Seems for budgetary reasons nobody puts them on
motorcycles these days, much less a dip stick...well okay some sport
bikes have a dipstick mounted on the seat. ;^)

As long as you biker guys are talking `bout
beer here in mn.general -- well, S'mee, Harp
is a lager made by Guiness. Personally, I
think it sucks. If you're going pilsner, go
"Pilsner Urqell" -- they invented it. But I
really like the Lagunitas Brewing Co's version,
    simply named "PILS".

And to Blanchard, if you like Porter, see if
you can find Left Hand Brewing Co's "Black
Jack Porter". It's available in Minnesota,
    don't know where you are.

And Biker Dude, if a beer is available in
MN, it can be found at Blue Max Liquors, on
County Road 42, a couple miles east of where
    35W and 35E join up.

    Ya'll owe me one!

If you are replacing the screws for hex head or allen type anyways, go for
    it.

You'll need some fine valve grinding paste, an impact driver, a swear box
and a big mug of tea.

You'll also need the relevant gasket, some blue hylomar ( for the gasket )
and probably some sort of setting sealant for the rear of the sight glass
    and the glass.

The sight glass on my bandit had a bit of a weep. Not much, but enough to
annoy me. The bike was under warranty at the time, so the gasket and glass
    was free.

Get the best fitting bit for the screws and apply a small amount of grinding
paste to the tip of the bit. Give the screws a whack with the impact driver
and use the heaviest hammer you've got. Oh yeah, make sure you have it set
    to loosen.....

You'll probably tear the gasket as the cover comes off. Even if it doesn't
tear. don't skimp by trying to reuse it. Some brake cleaner may remove the
guck on the sight glass, so just smear a small amount of hylomar on both
sides of the new gasket, have a mug of tea while the solvent evaporates and
    reassemble.

If it doesn't come clean, then getting the old one out may prove
interesting. On the bandit, it was a case of scraping out the sealant on
the inside of the case, then smashing the old glass. The glass was retained
by a rubber ring with two one way V ridges. Easy to refit. Then, use a
setting blodge around the rear of the ring. High temperature silicone would
probably do the job. Check with your local dealership that it is compatible
with high temperatures and oil though!

The method of removal/refitting may be different on your bike, but the
    basics are there.

  6. It is. It's an old lager brand that's not sold here any more. Terrible
stuff. Guinness uses a harp as its logo, which is probably what confused
    you.

Bass is good beer, though. And Newky Brown is excellent, assuming it's
brewed to the same strength as native NB, hich is about 4.5-5.0% ABV.

  7. A lot of engines are so crammed into the cases these days, there's
nowhere to *put* a damn dipstick.

  8. As Olson says, that generation of Kawasakis never used a wiper. I've had
several from that era. The original Gold Wing did.
Hey, Jack. Your scorecard has started. ;-)

Here's the straight poop for you and your pet catamite (aka
    "S'mee")...

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harp_Lager

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diageo

When consortiums and multinationals get involved in brewing some
particular style of beer, it's actually no longer a *national*
product, no matter how much traditionalists (and brewery workers) wish
    it was.

But your catamite buddy doesn't care where any particular brand is
brewed, as long as it buzzes his brain and helps him forget what he
did to innocent civilians in Iraq...

  10. Ah, good. We've already got some good results from the bits of
test beam we managed before Christmas. Nothing new yet but enough
reproduction of known stuff. Should be ramping up again the middle of
    next month.

  11. Well I never. Harp is indeed still brewed for the UK market. I haven't
seen it on sale for ages, but maybe the changed design of the can and
bottle is the reason for the lack of recognition.

It was still always pretty dreadful stuff. Most UK-brewed lager is poor
stuff: damn nearly as bad as US beer, to be frank.

If you're drinking lager, dry and drink something brewed on the
Continent, especially if it's been brewed in Germany or the Czech
    Republic.

Of 'mainstream' bitters, I like Spitfire and Old Speckled Hen. Bass is
always acceptable. Young's and Fullers (both London breweries although
Young's recently relocated out of the capital) both do excellent strong
bitters: Special and Extra Special Bitter, respectively.

Boy you are as stupid as you appear to be...you goat rapers are all so
    stupid.

Tell me chicky boy...what makes you assume you are as informed as I?
For that matter what makes a ass raping chickenhawk like you think you
are half as smart as a dead irish setter? I'd call you a fool...except
you are smart enough to even call you a fool.

I've know that stuff for years...hell fosters hasn't been imported
from oz in decades. But it is brewed in canada so it can be called
imported. Man...you are one STUPID little pile of shit.

  13. Ah, yes, one of Congress's eternal shames. They'd actually started
excavation for SSC when Congress withdrew/witheld funds and they had to fill
the hole in again. Tho' why they decided to build it in Waxahachie I don't
know, I'd have thought it'd be a constant battle against the fire ants.
    (And IIRC from my co-PhD student who grew up there, it's a dry county;
wouldn't sit well with the Physikers!).

well it has been 20 years and yes it was Harp. NOT Guinness...you
can't confuse the two, but you do use both to make a black and
    tan. ;^)
Yeah they brew the Newky in the states...I'm not impressed. Moose
Drool is better, both are in the 5% range.

Never thought to compare those two directly,
but I agree 95%. Brown ales are too, um, mild
for my taste. I prefer very malty ESBs, myself.
Since Oasis closed in Colorado, I haven't found
one I'm willing to drink regularly.

Check out Boulevard's "Single Wide" IPA. It is
a very good alternative to Larry Bell's "Two
Hearted Ale" IPA and a coupla bucks cheaper.

Unlucky you. I first became aware of it in
a book entitled "The 50 Greatest Beers In
The World".  It was either 1st or 2nd in the
Porter style -- but 1st in *my* book. Yum.

But lucky you being so near the Portland OR
brew scene. There's likely dozens of world
beers available to you up there that the rest
of the world has never heard of.

I wonder how "Charles River Porter" rated. I know for a fact you can
float a quarter on the head and it wont sink more than an inch by the
time you finish the pitcher. It's named for the Charles river that
runs through the boston area...infamous for it's one time legendary
pollution and fine crop of finless brown trout. ;^)

heh I wish. I live in outback montana these days. On the plus side
I've the GTTSR right out the back door...literally. Big Sky Brewing
and Bayern are two of the bigger breweries here and many other small
ones. Pigs ass is fairly light (for a porter) porter brewed up
here...kind of like a heavy brown ale really. I love a good IPA when I
can get it, Long Hammer IPA from Red Hook is available and fortunately
they hop it heavy enough you can almost taste the dirt at the farm
where the hops were raised. ;^) Me likey!
