Steve Parry said... Oooooh, very very rare one too. I've only ever had one maroon one in the 29 I've owned. The rarest of all the RDs they are. That one's a bit weird, as it has Yamaha badges on the calipers. They stopped putting those on when they stopped making the C model, and this one is a D. Other than that, it's the best original and unrestored one I've seen in a very long time. That's the sort of condition my RD250D was in. http://www.angelfire.com/sc2/haleyspage/RD250D.jpg and http://www.angelfire.com/sc2/haleyspage/4ofem.jpg There are a few more of my old strokers on that site. -- Lozzo GSX-R1000 K1, GPZ500S, GSF600W BOTAFOT#57/70a, BOTAFOF#57, MIB#22, TCP#7, ANORAK#9, DIAABTCOD#14, UKRMT5BB, IBW#013, MIRTTH#15a/16, BotToS#8, GP#2, SBS#10, SH#3, DFV#14, BONY#9, OMF#18.
I had a maroon one. Not that it was in anything like that condition, not even when I got it, when it had already suffered about 6 years of abuse and neglect. I don't think it had the badges on the calipers. Also IIRC mine had gold-ish coloured wheels. All of the other differences from this one, e.g. the lack of mirrors, the indicators off something else entirely, the bodged exhausts with the rubber bits missing, the extreme fading of the paintwork, the oil leaks, the extra bracing round the tail light to compensate for the extreme rust on the mudguard... were I think symptoms of said abuse and neglect. Regards, Ian
Ian Northeast said... All the C and D models came with either wire spoked wheels or plain cast alloy ones, they certainly weren't painted gold at the factory. I'd say that 90% of the UK market Ds and about 50% of the Cs were fitted with alloys, I've only had one or two Ds that had spoked wheels. -- Lozzo GSX-R1000 K1, GPZ500S, GSF600W BOTAFOT#57/70a, BOTAFOF#57, MIB#22, TCP#7, ANORAK#9, DIAABTCOD#14, UKRMT5BB, IBW#013, MIRTTH#15a/16, BotToS#8, GP#2, SBS#10, SH#3, DFV#14, BONY#9, OMF#18.
Mine was (allegedly, mostly) a D. In view of the above, I suspect that the gold wheels were another bodge by a previous owner. Certainly the finish wasn't of the highest quality, but by the time I got it it wasn't easy to tell the difference between initial paucity and deterioration Regards, Ian

Steve Parry said... It came with a Dunlop Gold Seal F7 as the original front tyre, so did the Z250A. This one seems to still have the original front tyre but an Avon Roadrunner rear. -- Lozzo GSX-R1000 K1, GPZ500S, GSF600W BOTAFOT#57/70a, BOTAFOF#57, MIB#22, TCP#7, ANORAK#9, DIAABTCOD#14, UKRMT5BB, IBW#013, MIRTTH#15a/16, BotToS#8, GP#2, SBS#10, SH#3, DFV#14, BONY#9, OMF#18.

It might have been, but I seem to recall K77s being sold by our local tyre shop, so maybe not. -- Lozzo GSX-R1000 K1, GPZ500S, GSF600W BOTAFOT#57/70a, BOTAFOF#57, MIB#22, TCP#7, ANORAK#9, DIAABTCOD#14, UKRMT5BB, IBW#013, MIRTTH#15a/16, BotToS#8, GP#2, SBS#10, SH#3, DFV#14, BONY#9, OMF#18.
