Aye, and once you do know where they go, they go in easily. Provided
you take a little care, they can be re-used several times [1]. I find
the main reason for their demise is me dropping them on the floor so the
sticky bit gets covered in carpet fluff. [2]

[1] by which I mean taken out and put back in.
[2] *Why* do they always land sticky side down?

I frquently used a pair of wraparound "vision intensifier"
yellow-lensed safety specs under the visor a while ago. They work a
treat in dull conditions, but (obviously) skew your colour vision a
bit. Due to their design, I could leave the visor open a goodly gap
to prevent misting and still have draught-free eyeballs. The
pin-sharp, enhanced contrast vision was indeed excellent, however.

The weirdest thing was taking them off after a couple of hours, as the
colour perception would still be skewed, but in the negative of how it
had been with them on. I've had the same effect from "BluBlocker"
sunglasses which turn your world orange.

    Murphy's Daemons' Law, innit?

The one that guarantees that your toast will land butter side down -
hence the theory concerning strapping a piece of buttered toast to a
cat's back, buttered side uppermost ... will the cat land on its feet,
or will the butter hit the deck first?

Or will the cat end its days spinning just above the ground while the
    immutable laws battle it out?

Sounds like a relative of Shroedinger's (sp?) cat.
