    Hog says...
If there's a screw thread on the downpipe end then it's for a 250 or
    350. If there's no screw thread and just a thicker flange about 30mm up
    the pipe then it's a 400 pipe.

The internals are identical, it's the rubber joining piece that was
fitted to the 400 to stop them cracking that is diferent.

OK - so we have established that it is not suitable for Hog's 400 - so
    we're talking just 250/350 A & B models?

Can you put 250 downpipes on 250 silencers on a 400 engine and get rid
    of those fucking rubber connectors?

They are actually C/D model exhausts if they have those markings on. The
250A and B had something like 369 (or some other three numbers starting
with 3), instead of the 1A0 number.

    I ran a 400E engine in a F chassis with 250E[1] pipework for 4 years and
never cracked a joint, so I don't see why not, but you might not be so
    lucky.

[1]I wanted it to look as much like a 250 as possible right down to the
sidepanel stickers, despite it having a Beckett proddy tuned 400E engine
that was clocked at 128mph down the straight at Snetterton before I
    bought it.

So not 250/350 A/B models (incorrect numbers)

Not 400 C (Hog's) (incorrect fitting at the downpipe end)

By elimination I'm getting 250 *only* and C/D models *only* - seem
    right?

Spot on. They may well fit an earlier reed valve 250 or 350, but the
numbers aren't correct for those models.
