    I've just had mine upgraded to a 8820 - it's a fuckload better.

too small for a business PDA. Nice enough for a phone, though.

  4. In message
I expect it'll be the phone that gets the most use, so that's good news.

Currently I have a Nokia 6021 which is ok for what I use it for (standby
24/7 mainly), so the Pearl looks to be something to play with for a bit.

You'll probably get to use MS Exchange instead of Lotus Notes too. So I
    say you're a spawny bastard.

    I still fancy a Palm Treo 680.

My Treo 750 isn't too bad. It occasionally needs a Pan Up Reset.

  9. I've had an 8800 for the last three months?

Bar a phase when it seemed to need the battery removed once a week to
stop it draining down too quickly, it's actually been pretty good.

The GPS is pants in terms of the fact you can't bang in postcodes to
search for an addy etc., but is still pretty good considering
everything else that's built into it.

I believe the main difference between this and the 8820 is a lack of
    Wi-Fi

The main thing I think does suck is, especially in view of the fact
it's not a two minute job to change it, is the shell and screen mark
    too easily.

The finish seems to be more 'Taiwanese el cheapo Nokia fascia' rather
than 'Genuine Nokia fascia', which is quite disappointing on something
at this end of the market.

It's already looking more tired and battered than my getting on for a
year old Sony Ericsson W850i, which gets caned to death as an MP3
player as well as a phone.

well, mine's a corporate phone without the GPS enabled, but I wouldn't
use it anyway, so no loss.

  11. As a server it's reliable (much more so than any version of exchange
    I've looked after).

As a client is sucks worse than a dyson trying to hoover up the
supermassive black hole at the centre of the galaxy.

I have to do the same to my PDA sometimes.

I briefly considered an iPhone but I don't want to extend my contract
    for 2 years with at$t.

I can get an unlocked Treo and just swap sims.

  14. What software are you using? I'm using googlemaps and it takes Zipcodes
    okay.

Odd, I've had mine a while and it's not too bad. Perhaps you got a duff
one, or, maybe you're just ham fisted?

  15. I've been using the built in Blackberry maps thingy... I've downloaded
the Google maps thing onto it as well though, so maybe I ought to
    persevere with that.
Not really - the rest of the newer generation Blackberries in our
office are displaying the same signs compared to the older ones, at
least in terms of the chrome tat they've afflicted the later models
with - might look nice and shiny when new, but it wears a bit too
easily for comfort and looks tatty, too soon.

And as I said, my Sony Ericsson, whilst not so adorned with chrome
tat, has had a much harder life over the last year (rather than just
three months), and it's retained it's overall finish much better.

Just not what I'd expect of something so aimed at the business
    community, really.

We've got 8800s, 8820s and Curves floating about here, and they're all
starting to look tatty in this respect.

    I'm hesitating between a Moto Q and a Moto MC35.

The Q is nice, smaller and runs WM6. The problem is that it isn't a
tactile screen and is a half size screen. Voice quality is great
apparently. Very sexy looking phone too.

The MC35 is bigger and bulkier, but runs WM5.0 still. I also like the
decent sized tactile screen, camera and built in GPS. I've also got a
shedload of software from spbsoftwarehouse to turn it into a proper
phone. Plus I'll get all the phone upgrades for free. :) Not so sexy
    though.

    We'll see.

I had thought about a Q phone (unlocked cost a fortune), an iPhone (add
20USD a month for the data bill + extending my contract for 2 years) and
the Treo. I settled on the Treo as I have some software for my Palm PDA
that I use and it syncs with the iMac. I bought an unlocked 680
(Graphite) from Palm for 340 USD.

Unless you *need* the keyboard, HTC Touch is a better bet. The bestes
    phone I ever used.
