....anyone got both a decent video capture card and a DVD-burner? Oh,
    and a VHS VCR?

Fairly obviously from the above, I'm after copying a Video Tape onto a
    DVD (it's for a chrimble-present).

I've got an Aztech "Video Conferencing Upgrade Kit", that I've never
used. It's got a video capture card, and a colour camera. It's pretty
old (like, 5 years old), so I've no idea whether it's actually up to
doing decent video capture. You can have it for a reasonable sum.

I really don't know what it's worth. Maybe 40-50 quid? The camera
    alone is pretty good.
I might just do that - remember, when I say I haven't used it, I
haven't even taken it out of the box - it might not even work.
Sure - I'll install the thing tomorrow, see what happens.

    Veggie Dave?
I used http://www.videotodvd.info and found their service to be
    excellent.

They mastered two video tapes onto two DVDs for me for about 40 quid.

    you're right.
I'll bear it in mind. Thing is, I haven't got the video yet (I'm
    /buying/ it from eBay, hopefully...)

Is this part of Nero 6?

I am still using Nero 5.5 and as yet seen no reason to upgrade.

I shall have to give it a try, Its just that I hate to upgrade when
the software that I have got works perfectly.

    I fucking wish.

Today I have spent 5 hours on a one to one trying to tell The Soppy Cow
why control Z is such a useful tool and all we have to show for our
efforts is a template for the right sized paper with the fold lines for
the spine printed on it. Getting it in landscape before lunch was an
    *achievement*.

What do they teach these kids in uni these days?

Sadly no Nero on the particular system we were using. This was being
done in something she _knows_: Publisher.

I promised myself I wouldn't do stress anymore.

Ah. The two tapes I had converted were football matches (West Ham v
Coventry in the 1999 Youth FA Cup Final, which West Ham won 9-0 on
aggregate - I was present at both games, hence the video taping) so no
need for chapters or a menu.
The master copies have a simple printed label. The company I got to
duplicate it (some Geordies, as I remember) did nicer labels for the
discs, with the West Ham club crest and more details about the games. A
mate in Sweden did a cover because he wanted to.
Oh, sure. I thought it was well worth the 40 nicker, though.

you'll sort it and emerge victorious in short order ;-)

Pinnacle's Studio DC10plus version 8 seems capable, good picture
capture size and handles PAL frame rate without problem, C/W software.

    http://www.pinnaclesys.com/ProductPage_n.asp?Product_ID=2&Langue_ID=2

The important specs on features and specifications link.

It needs to be mounted in a capable machine with plenty of free hard
disk space, only needs 12gig an hour for high quality capture:)

Dare I say it, it is available from PC World for about £100, probably
    a lot cheaper elsewhere.

This ain't a product recomendation, I have never used their kit:)

If you ain't doing vast amounts of this type of work get a *Fellows
Neeto CD Labeling Kit* it comes with software and a bundle of labels,
if you run out of CD case labels just print on thin card - thick paper
    and get out the scissors:)

I use the disk labels all the time, something to do with other people
not being able to read my handwriting:)
