Is it up for on, and down for off?

    I can't remember, and it's dark now.

Not all of them. The one for my upstairs landing light seems to have a
mind of its own. Some times it is up for on and sometimes it is down.
I think it is a whether related thing but I am not sure.

Whether related; whether the other switch is up or down?

Depends. Industry standard is actually *up* for on. It's just domestic
    stuff that works backwards.

Of course it all goes to pot if you have two way switching.

Then it would be tap once for on and tap again for off. They are lighted
to so I can see where the **** they are.

  13. It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember Salad Dodger
In the good old British Fashion, it's up for off, down for on. These
damned Continentals have it the other way round, of course, and will
doubtless try again to have it their way. We showed 'em the door last
time, and will do again, by crackey.

    (Andy Hewitt) struggled to ejaculate:
American switches do that, too. The up for on bit.

Merkin-legal bikes, innit. Always-on lights, no fucking switch. Just
a lump of plastic where the switch isn't.

Except for the coppers, they can run without lights. Which is nice as
it's a dead give away that one of them is behind you.

I've always ridden with lights on, too. I like the option, though -
not to be dictated to by some fucking faceless nanny-**** somewhere
who arbitrarily decides that i will have my lights on no matter what I
    want to do.

Not only that, but the marginal POS that I have owned are a lot
    happier starting with lights off.

    Aha.

    <makes note>

Hang on - what about in the dark? They could sneak up on you a treat
then, what with their lights being turnable offable and all.
