    Aye, go right ahead.

I've worked out what the problem is: I had my good luck, then my bad
luck, which is *completely* the wrong order. You got it the right way round.

You're still a jammy sod, mind.

No shit. I've had a shufty around recently, and salaries in London
seem to have jumped by about 20k in the last few months. Still
pisspoor in the M4 corridor, but with that kind of jump I could
feasibly rent a second flat in central London and still be quids
    in.

If only I didn't just *love* my current employer [1] quite so much...

[1] Not who Champ thinks it is. Almost a year now. Though you wouldn't
know it from my ID card or email address. God bless those efficient
    Germans...

And even better would be somewhere not always on the brink of large

IMHO £85k is a bloody decent salary for any employee at any level
excepting senior sales types making a commission margin.

I do indeed however I'm not planning to come over loaded up with
riding gear so I'll pass. Genuine thanks for the offer though.

there are people in my org making > 5 times that amount, and they're
    not sales people.

They are on fairly aggresive PRP schemes, mind.

Yeah so there are not lots of people being paid stupid salaries that
would be impossible to justify in another world. This I knew.

err, from my point of view ~1/2 a million a year counts as "fairly
stupid". Of course, this needs to be offset against the tens of
millions these people make for the company.

We are in agreement, the "not" was a typo.
I heard the arguments for these types at BT. Curiously when folk like
this were downsized the company did not self destruct.

My money is on staying where you are continuing with the "personal sense
of ownership" and not getting the wages.

Isn't nearly everything in Big IT in Swindon?

I'm sure that one day I'm going to end up having to work there. At least
there are lots of nice-ish places to live nearby. I might even get to ride
    my bike.
