B-I-L has just got himself snapped at 36 in a 30 (in a Porsche, oh the
    shame of it).

He's suggesting an attempted "defence" that he had accidentally set the
speedo to KMH, and couldn't figure out how to reset it, so was having to
judge his speed by eye (not knowing how many K's 30M's is). "It is now
    reset, your honour".

I'm trying to tell him he's a fucking idiot, pay the 60 quid and take it
like a man, he's convinced he's Perry Mason.

I *think* he might listen to an authoritative voice. Maybe. He's a
    ****[1], right?

    [1] in other senses than "a Porsche-driving ****", obviously.

Nigel Eaton was seen penning the following ode to ... whatever:
You're going about this the wrong way. Let him plead, watch him being
banned and borrow his car until he gets his license back.

Heh. I don't think even *he's* going to be able to get a ban for 36. It
    wasn't in Wales.

Unfortunately, this isn't a defence that will stand up along with the "my
speedo's not working" one. It will be taken that a competent driver(may not
apply to this case)can accurately judge his speed. Bit crap that the camera
is set that low, all of ours are set at 40.

Not experienced in such matters, but my attitude if I was a beak would be
"So he admits he was breaking the law, and I'm not interested in his excuses
as it's his responsibility to ensure that the bike is working properly
before it goes on the black stuff, Right I wonder what the maximum penalty
is I can give this plonker"

Seeing as he doesn't want to take it like a man, tell him to get his
wife to fill in the NIP and not sign it. Doing 36 in 30 he probably
shouldn't hear anymore about it apart from a 'bluff and bluster' letter
which he should ignore. He'll have much more chance getting off than his
    original thinking.

Just read that he received the NIP, does he still have the enevelope and
was it posted first class (apparently NIPs have to be sent first class).

This is absolute bollocks. If you don't know, then don't fucking post.
We've been right through the ins and outs of law pertaining to NIPs so
many times in this ng, and your advice is total crap.

Trust me on this, I tried to fight the law, and the law one to the tune
of a fine 80 quid larger than the first offer made on the NIP.

Really the only way to deal with this sort of plonker is to give him all
the encouragement you can and hope that the Beak didn't get his oats the
    night before.

Tell him to demand a trial by jury. Then demand that all poor people be
removed from said jury - as they obviously aren't his peers.

    This is More crap.

I am £60 lighter and three points heavier for 36mph in a 30.

I also have a speedo in kph, but that has **** all to do with it.

Tell him to take the ticket option - there is *no* way this defence
will work - although he could invite an additional charge of failing
    to maintain speedometer!!
Very low speed though - where was it?

When it comes to matters regarding traffic law, I don't listen to
barrack room lawyers on the net anymore, 99% of them are full of shit. I
trust only the advice of our resident janitor and those in the legal
