Well there I was in the SOD a couple of nights ago, trotting along quite
nicely at a fair old gallop up to Blackburn, when it suddenly occured to me
a few miles up the road from Birmingham, that the last time I went that way,
it was daylight, and IIRC, I espied that they had SPECs littering the
    gantries...

    Oops.

*Ahem* Are they still in place, and if so, what is the trigger speed?

    TIA

I did the route which takes you from the M1, just before it meets the M62
(A616?), across the peaks to Buxton - one of the roads, had SPECS all the
way along it... thing was, the (IIRC) A628 which was the second part of that
route had none, and is a stonking road full of tight twisties.

I enjoyed it in the cage, never mind on a bike.

    A619? via Chesterfield?

I don't remember it haing specs and it's a lovely road.. I used to use
it 2 or 3 times a week going to and from a customer..

Rememebr specs looks like this (lighing may be on both sides, but not
    locally to me....

Most other boxes are a variation on traficmaster.

There's tons of the buggers on the Thelwall Viaduct. (Just south of
Warrington for the directionally dyslexic).. and the traditional 40 mph

Ah yes, J35a... A616 at Chapeltown - Spec'ed to feck, was that.

Then I turned onto the A628 where it meets the A616 near Penistone.

Looking at the map, it certainly was the 'scenic route', but was worth it.

Have done the way you said in the past, but the other way.
Aye... all the ones I've seen have had just the one lens or whatever, either
side of the main unit, but definitely SPECs, as they are mounted on the same
posts as shown in the SPECs section of that website.

Wasn't that just when they were doing the recent roadworks?

I went throught there from the A580 up to Standish (junction after
M58) Friday afternoon and there wern't any then. Although there was a
*luervly* queue southbound from Thelwall all the way back to Standish.
Reminded me of the M25. Who says we are deprived up North.

I can't believe they are still working on that Thelwall Viaduct. If memory
serves they started building the new one about 10 years ago. Surely they
    must have finished by now.

    Few repairs?

It seems that after they built the new bridge they decided to check
the old bridge for wear and tear.

Now the road rests on the supports on some metal cylinders so that the
structure can move with heat/cold etc. At first they thought that
just a few of these things needed replacing. Then they decide that
all 130 (or so) of them do.

So there's one man, his dog and a large bottle jack at the top of a
very long ladder under the northbound bridge, replacing these things
at the rate of one a week, except for when the dog drops it and they
have to find it in the ship canal.

Well that's what it feels like they are doing the rate they are doing
    it...

They were there for the road works, last time I went that way (J8-J4) the
roadworks had been removed and so had the cmaeras.

There are 2 GATSOs by the new brum bypass.
SPECS on Thelwall and some roadworks around J17/18 (or is it 19)

I didn't actually... I referred to him in the first person, and then
enquired by way of an 'or' as to an alternative person who might identify
    themselves as being 'motorway filth'.
