    Righto John,

Try the chip in another system first, it is one I removed from a system when
    I changed the mobo to a socket T jobby. I don't know it's history.
The cpu itself may be farked. I didn't think it was as the system was
'allegedly working ok when I did the upgrade for the customer.
If it's no good I'll see if I can get me paws on another, if you don't mind
    waiting a few days.
Sorry bout the email, it seems to have been sorted now ( I hope!)

    Cheers.

Too late, it's on its way back to Aria.

I've always thought that CPUs tended to either work or not. I did try
"underclocking" the CPU and RAM to see if that helped but it was still
    no use.

I tend to agree that cpu's either 'do or don't' but I haven't tried nor
tested that one. Just had it on the shelf.
