There's a new Microsoft keyboard with a fingerprint pad. I'm tempted.

Ben Blaney was seen penning the following ode to ... whatever:
Given my experience of M$ keyboards and their general tactile quality
    I'm not...

I have a Microsoft Optical Desktop Elite and I like it. So it'll be
the same, apart from I'll have the fingerprint pad instead of the
extra mouse wheel (which I don't use).

heh - it'd be nice to have that slacker's luxury. Unfortunately, about
30% of the browser apps I'm involved with are public Internet facing,
so we need to test (and fix to work) in a whole slew of different
    browsers on different platforms.

although I don't actually own any, my experience of Microsoft hardware
products, keyboards, mice, joysticks etc. has all been positive. I've
got a really nice clunky Dell keyboard here at work, though I could do
with a new one at home - I'll check out the one you've suggested.

I think I'd go absolutely spare if I didn't have my mouse wheel at work -
using the mac mouse, which doesn't have one, it a right pain in the nuts by
    comparison

the key word in Ben's paragraph is "extra" - the Microsoft Desktop
Elite pack comes with a mouse that not only has a wheel, but it's a
tilt wheel, allowing 2 dimensional scrolling. I think the older
keyboard had a wheel on it where the new one has a fingerprint reader.

    Good lord, whatever next?

The fingerprint login thing is quite cool, though of course by buying them
as early adopters, we'd be hastening their mass-market adoption, which would
no doubt bring down the price to near-peanuts, which would usher in their
ubiquity, which would be inevitably by a totalitarian state.

It's the triple-shot soy latte what did it. There's a "followed" missing
    there somewhere.

You misunderstand. I have a wheel mouse. I also have an extra wheel
on the lhs of my keyboard, which I never use.

With the fingerprint one, I lose the extraneous and irrelevant wheel,
and get something cool and labour-saving.
