Are you having another look at Nesscliffe? Having read up about the village a bit more there seems like a much better landmark (one with a unique and interesting history) than the one listed.
HK sounds like an interesting character. As does the horse he rode in on. The only cross I could find in LN was virtually a clone of the one in N. Its only virtue is that it is "near" rather than "in".
No crosses near me, they tend to make my hackles raise. And the whole crunmbling into dust in sunlight is abugger as well.
