Anything from 4.20/hour for making the tea to a couple of hundred for being
    chief exec.

If being a C++ Statistical Arbitrage Quantitative Developer is your thing
there's a job on jobserve offering up to 200K per year

Depends what you're doing and how much experience you've got (and what
    they're willing to pay). £50ph isn't a ridiculous start point unless it's
real numpty work. However, plenty of clients want day rates these days. HTH.

Feck! If only they'd gone for a sensible language[1] like Smalltalk and
didn't require the actual hands on arbitrage experience I'd be in there :)

Tee hee (s'alot of dosh init!).

    HTH.

That's true - I'm used to being paid an hourly rate but my last two
    contracts have been daily rates.
    I wonder what's behind this?
I've also been asked to work a 'professional working week' which seems to
mean me doing far more hours for no more pay.

What a wonderful phrase. I'm sure your interpretation is 100% correct.

    days. HTH.

50 squids would be an *extremely* good rate at the moment,
    even in the city.

A quick scan through my latest Jobserve 'jobs by e-mail'
has a load of financial institutions offering anything
from 350-600ukp/day, right down to 25ukp/hour. This is
    for VC++ development, BTW.

GBP 50 seems roughly there. TBH, it's for where I currently work.
I'm leaving and they have a few projects that they still want me on
board for. I just want to know at which point to say NO, really.

In that case, screw 'em for as much as you can get. I assume
you'll have another 'full time' job so anything they want you
back for is going to be in your 'spare time' which is going
    to cost a premium.

Oh... well like I said it depends what you're doing. I could get VB wallahs
for as little as £30ph or so but Smalltalkers were rock bottom minimum £50ph
rising quite easily beyond that. YMMV

    Not a full-time job, no. A small enterprise, that's all. I'll enjoy
    the subsidy for a while.

That's why I put it in quotes. What you tell your ex-employers
and what is reality can differ by quite a margin.

Oh FFS, if you've already got the inside knowledge blah blah then £50ph
    should be a breeze IMO.

Aye. I've just been out for a rather nice lunch with my soon-to-be
    ex-boss. <thinks> I really should get a posting alias.

Yes. My question was posed in order to establish a range which would
    be acceptable. Keep 'em coming.
