Paging dwb - Kite Festival

  1. As you seem to be addicted to flying kites I thought this may interest
you. Just down the road (well Bristol) - was featured on breakfast
    telly this morning.

oooh - I thought that was next week (when I'm surfing again :) ) but I see
it isn't - might take a wander down there as the weather looks rather good
    for the weekend.

    Cheers.

Actually rather a pain to get too :|

And it says £6 for cars but nothing about motorcycles.

I think they do hard standing for bikes (probably still sting you for
the £6)however being anywhere near Ashton Court on a bike after the
thunderstorms we had during the week may be a bad idea. It gets very
    muddy.

Having gone today, these were my experiences of the journey :

M4 has crap roadworks after the A46 junction [1]
M4/M5 junction was rammed with holiday traffic - got to get in some
filtering practice on the Strom - not a banged mirror in sight :)

Kite show parking is down a gravel/dirt/sand road - if it's wet this could
be highly interesting as it's very fine dust so likely to be like ice. Today
was bone dry so the Strom and I are now a lighter shade than when we
started - the bike looks quite good in "light dust" colour scheme actually -
probably never get it clean again though. Again glad I was on the Strom
rather than the GSX-R though - I got to feel all adventurous ;-)

Parking was free - but no specific hard area for bikes - ended up parking in
the field with a few others - side stand puck was useful.

Go early as the main car park fields seem to fill up pretty early on, though
I guess they'd still let bikes through as they take up virtually no space.

Not a bad day out :) <goes to put melted credit card away>

[1] I took the scenic route (A417,B4494,A4,A420,A46) for most of it then
wanted to do a "quick" stint on the motorway to bypass Bristol - mistake :)

Route home was M4 until the A338 junction then a spirited ride up the
    A338/A417 home.

I must say that whilst the Strom isn't sexy and I'll never impress anyone on
it - it's blindingly good at trips like this one - fast tA roads, twisty B
roads, followed by 85mph cruising on the motorway etc - and a 180mile + tank
    range isn't bad either!

Paul Corfield emerged from their own little world to say
You snipped: "Not a bad day out :) <goes to put melted credit card away>"

Sounds like he was too busy shopping to notice

Quite impressive - it's amazing what you can get to fly with enough will
power and a bit of wind :)

But really it's hard, in writing, to try and enthuse about a kite show -
it's really something you need to go to/have an interest in.

I did end up buying one of these though
    http://www.flexifoil.com/products/kite_landboards_flexdeck.php so you could
say from a financial point of view it was a rubbish day! :)

  17. Yes I know I did.
Which is why I asked the question Dr Obvious.

  18. Well at least you had wind which I imagine is a bonus at such an event
    ;-)
I think you need to go the Pip school of post writing. I could claim not
to have any interest in the nocturnal happenings in the Pixie garden but
the tales that are recounted are hugely entertaining. Surely there was
something amazing going on - there were obviously plenty of people
    there.
You're obviously taking this all very seriously if you're prepared to be
whizzed around on a kite mated with a skateboard.

:) Like any hobby though :
Now if Bear were really having a dead pool... my money would be on me
stuffing the board + me (and kite) into the hedge much more so than the
    bike.

Oh and I don't have either the patience, creativity or thick skin of the
Ginger One to create things of that calibre.

Plus if I told you there was a headless bloke, a dragon fly and a naked
woman [1] flying in the sky you'd think I'd gone mad.

[1] the top half at least.
