Sling a litre of ATF in the fuel tank and take it for an Italian
    Service.

Well... one thing to bear in mind with a shite old diesel, is that because
of the high, (much higher than most other types of engine at around 23:1),
compression ratio, fuel is forced past the rings into the oil - it's one of
the reasons diesels, or at least older design ones, have a lower mileage
threshold on oil changes - the oil will be black, and appear to be as watery
    as piss, come change time.

So it may well be using a bit of oil, but fuel is filtering through in
enough quantity to make up for the shortfall, mixing to make a much thinner
engine oil in the process. Thinner oil gets into the combustion areas with
more ease than nice fresh thick stuff.

I'd change it if you're not all that sure when it was last done, anyway,
    just to be sure.

  3. It's also the handling, which is positively dangerously undamped in in
the shock absorber department, which means you may need the tank like
    reinforcement they have.

We had them as company cars for news gathering in the late 1980s and
    they were sh*te.

A so called ultra safe car, with no ABS. Even an SO BX has that.

    No need to be resentful.

  8. I was going to pay £300 tops but it's reached that already. I was going
to risk £305 in case the current low feedback bidder turned out to be
bogus but then I don't really want it for that sort of money and it
would be too easy to get carried away and pay miles more than what it's
    worth.
