Of course. But I'm firmly of the belief that it's better to be a big
    fish in a small pond.

I get a years extra warranty cover on electrical goods costing £100 or
more and then there's theft and accidental damage cover as well.

I pay no annual fee, don't get any flash deals or discounts when I've
spent a gazillion quid and pay 10.9% APR.

I find it convenient. I find juggling my finances much easier with a
couple of credit cards and as there's the added bonus of knowing there's
"emergency cash" there should I need it.

Having said that though, it is rather easy to go out and buy something
you can't afford just because you think it'll only cost you an extra £50
    a month.

I arrived in casualty, got the 'she's going to be fine nod' from the

a round of applause from the nurses and a request to borrow me for

Christofire secured a place in history by writing:
The wonderful thing about credit cards: You can apply for loads with
months of interest free credit and balance transfer the lot to (ultimately)
a savings account, where all the free dosh earns you £70 a month until you
have to give it back. Even better is when Egg make monumental cockups and
manage to credit your card twice with all the balance transfers (£66,000!),
then treat the correcting debit as a purchase, on which they give you .5%
    cashback [1]

[1] This bit not guaranteed to work [2]
[2] Most likely to work with Egg IME, on the basis of multiple cock-ups in
    my favour over the years.

Good point, my SE P900 was abit steep, but compared to my old Nokia 9210 is
quite a lithe lissome little thing.

Depends what you buy dunnit? Since prices for smaller goods that are
unabarterable are allegedly loaded to take into account cc charges, when
;aying cash you're paying the same for items without the convenience of
credit cards, so you're really paying more for *not* using a cradit card.

the earliest post of mine I can find is from 95, but I know I posted
some stuff from my uni account in 86/87 or so and some stuff via
Fidonet gateway in the early 90s, but can't find any of.

Heh, never been called as an expert witness before, but I think the
auld fella means that the restaurants don't open until late, not that
they don't stay open until late once they are IYSWIM.

But anyways, the early afternoon restaurants thart are open are for
the tourists, the ones that open at 8-9pm are more frequented by the
    locals.

Find yourself an *Osteria*, not a Trattoria or Ristorante (or even
Cantina at a push, as it's very unusual to get food here) to get good
    traditional food.

There won't be much choice, but you will have the best fresh
ingredients of what was looking good at the market on that day.

    Cheers,

    Paul.

Now I see. Why the old buffer couldn't make himself clear, I don't
know. Seems you can get a PhD on the back of a cornflake packet these
