Bollocks. You don't have to make calls to use it a lot.

You just have to sit around waiting for people to phone instead of
    phoning them.
A perfect description of someone who has a phont but never phones
    anyone.

You don't /actually/ have to sit around, but yes.
I don't have a phont and don't even know what one is ;-)

I hardly ever phone anyone either because I'm poor and have no friends.

You actually thought it would be?

I am indeed pretty dumb as I utterly fail to see why you'd (or anyone else)
would bother using a mobile for that.

And apparently, *I'm* a twat. Mark's is obviously a strange world.

Well now obviously it would be but when I bought my first WAP phone,
they were still in their infancy and I didn't have internet access at
home and the novelty value was high.

The whole thing was horribly slow though, and at 10p a minute the costs
    soon racked up.

The novelty did wear off very quickly though as a) the services were
slow and crap, I.e no real content to speak of, and b) I was spending an
unhealthy amount of money on it.

I've had a few phones since then and the one I have now has got GPRS but
I won't use it because there's nothing I need to do that uses that
technology and I can't rightly think of anything I need to do that will
    need it in the future.

the only thing that really appeals about GPRS is being able to check
my various POP mailboxes from the phone - finally I've got a phone[1]
with a screen big enough to make this vaguely feasible.

[1] though I chose the phone I bought largely on it being the right
compromise between having decent PIM functionality, a good camera, and
    not being bloody huge[2]
[2] though it's slightly wider than I'd like, it's fine for length and
    depth.

Bluetooth PDA / Bluetooth Phone / GPRS is a reasonable combination for
reading mail on the go, but as for using a phone itself, it's a bit of a
    waste of time IME

The screen on mine's still tiny. A Samsung c100 with a screen area of no
more than a Christmas sized postage stamp. I had a T720i not so long ago
but bought the Samsung when some scrote nicked the Motorola.
    PIM?

I never had a phone with a camera built in as standard. What is a little
unnerving is sitting on a train when someone is "texting" and you see
their phone and a flippin' cameras lens pointed right at you.

Wouldn't mind trying bluetooth. I've got no idea what it is TBH but it
sounds good [1] and didn't know the T720i had it until a week or so ago
when I was looking round for another phone.

[1] I suppose I quite like the idea of being bluejacked ;-)
