paging Bonwick and Ogden

  1. From what I've observed in publishing, you're right.

    The long-serving *expensive* ones go and their jobs get taken over by
    the cheap incompetents.

    (I'm trying to figure out why I've managed to survive as long as I
    have.)

  5. From what I've seen in IT the usual process is:

    1st round: dead wood clearing. No voluntary redundancy as they know the
    good people will up-sticks.

    2nd round: cutting non-essential people. Especially the expensive ones.

    3rd round: cutting essential people in descending order of expense.

    4th round: getting rid of managers..
    I couldn't possibly comment.
