Breaking News, *some* convertibles can now raise/lower the roof up to
    30mph. Neat it is.

True. They still only look good with the top down, though, IMO, whereas
hard-top convertibles can look good either way.
well, I suppose I like the look of them, but I wouldn't want to own
one. I think. If I were heading in that direction (i.e. buying a car
that is so impractical that it is *just* a toy), I'd rather have an
Ariel Atom, and be done with it.

I was never _wuite_ sure about the looks of the 206cc back end with
the roof up. Still aren't after two years with it, for that matter,
but otherwise really pleased with it.

Oh, and it's Jude's car, of course, although it was me who insisted on
    the 2-litre, 140bhp model...

I said "can" look good either way. I don't like the look of the 206cc -
especially the ribbed boot. The 307cc is a better bet, though it's a
little freaky looking with the lid on. The Renault Megane equivalent is
actually a good looking car, and the little Merc SLK is pretty, even
    with the top up.

It's horrible from the back, IMO. Those lights!

    This I agree with.

It's also a bit gutless, even with the 180bhp lump, and handles like a
barge. Compared with the 206, at any rate. There's also been a few
recalls on it, some for potential roof leaks.
Aye, they've certainly got the looks spot on. Overpriced tack, of
course, but it does look nice.

/Mostly/ true. And why, when buying a convertible, it's crucial that
it looks good with the top up.

Not may meet this criterion, and fewer since there are more complex
curves in car shape. Audi TT is the best (worst) example. The tin
top is lovely looking, but the rag-top is hideous with the top up.
It's just not possible to get the curves right by stretching fabric.
I want a Caterham. The fast one.

I like the idea, but you'd need a real car as well.

Mate in Taunton has the full house carbon fibre JPS version. It
accelerates about as fast as a Gixxer thou.

I suspect they're going to become cheaper now as the new Tigra is a
nicer looking package from the outside... shame they made the inside so
    plasticy and cheap looking.

Neither are built on the golf floorpan. ;-)
