I can't imagine the exhaust would provide any level of protection
beyond a minor bump. It's only fixed in two places each of which
usually contain rubber mountings. In the event of a rear end shunt
the rear wheel is your friend more than any exhaust IMO.

Valid point on the racing although at world level the 750 class is
dead and at club level it's not far behind.
Z1000. They look more appealing every time I see one.

A naked GSX-R1000, superb! However, can I have a discount if I take
one with just the first two gears?

Eh? Ahem: " now tuned for a broader powerband and more low-and
    mid-range torque "

That reads as "detuned" to me. Usual sort of thing as practiced by
Yamaha amongst others: take a sportsbike engine, swap the cams for
less peaky items, jigger the ignition and fuelling a bit and end up
with an engine that may have more torque but is well down on outright
power than the original. Not a terrible thing to do, but not "tuned"
as in having more grunt squeezed out of it.
    And detune that too, eh?

That's why I put it in quotes. Also the reference to "does look quite nice"
was purely a comment on it's aesthetics :)
Well ideally no - but they always seem to :(

    Assuming it's that stubby black-covered thing I think it's a vast
improvement in concept as well as execution.

And the GSXR1000 K1/K2 lasted two years, followed by the K3/K4, which
lasted two years, followed by the K5/K6, which is just entering the
    second year...

So pretty much par for the course then.

I wonder what the BHP/torque of the new 750 is likely to be vs a K1
    thou.

"lower at higher revs" would be my guess ;-)

Fair enough, but it's hammered the value of your K1 down by about
    another £400.

My view is, if you want to buy a bike with sports bike preformance, buy
    a fucking sports bike.

I think the Fazer Thou has more than enough power and torque for a naked
bike. I like them. Naked bikes don't need 160bhp, you'll never be able
to use 3/4 of it anyway due to the riding position.

Your opinion, again. Thankfully not that of all the people who bought
them. Have you seen the residuals on Fazer thous, they hold their money
very well and aren't easy to get hold of. People like Fazer Thous.
Because traditonally people who buy naked bikes want more torque and
don't want or need the extra power that a sports bike has. You wouldn't
get Suzuki making two different models of B12, one low power and the
other full power. You can't expect any other manufacturer to do the same
either. There is a limited market for whatever bike you make, and you
pick your bike's spec accordingly. You fall into the "I want fucking
massive amounts of power no matter what the style of bike" category. You
are not the usual new bike customer. If they want massive power figures
then they can either buy a sports bike and streetfighter it, or tune the
    naked model, simple as.
Childish jibes, but I shan't ignore them. I don't claim to be a riding
god who can match the riders of obviously superior machinery on
something that is hopelessly outdated. I am modest about my riding
skills, I can and have been beaten by people on lesser bikes, so fucking
    what?

Because after intensive market research, that's what the majority of
buyers of that type of machine want.

I'm not about to tell someone who earns millions of pounds for his firm
that he's running his business wrong, and hitting the wrong markets. If
you think you know better than Yamaha's marketing men in Japan and
Europe, you tell them or go apply for the job. And you call me a clown?
