Jackets become silly prices with some concentrating on "features" rather
than form. Unfortunately good stuff made with gore-tex tends to attract a
    premium price tag.

Just got our new Ski Club uniform jackets - finally we've got some
decent kit, made by Schoeffel, gore-tex XCR, taped seams, dead good.
    £65 to us.

He's not wrong, but it's important to acknowledge the time it takes to
find the kit that's right as well.

Can't be done. Renting top-range ski boots is just not feasible,
either from UK shops or in resort.
No, what they'll do is offer a fitting guarantee, which at the end of
the day, if they agree that they're unable to get the boots to fit you
correctly, would work out equivalent to rental charges. And it's very
unlikely you'll get that agreement, as it's based on fit, not whether
    you've selected the right boot.

The best thing is to go to a _good_ boot fitter, who will help you to
make an informed selection, or to get to know what's right so that you
don't need to, but that relies on you having gone through the process
at a high level at least a couple of times, i.e. it's only any good
    for the experts.

FWIW I've now moved away from proper close-fitting boots - touring
boots are _so_ much more comfortable, and I no longer need the
stiffness of a race boot to hold me in place, except in race
conditions, which isn't something I do that often ;-)

I think he's talking about pikey class again. You wouldn't know about
    that.

So they were/are clearly not top-range boots then. (We are talking
about ski boots aren't we?) My first decent pair were around £300
about ten years ago. Prices have gone down a bit since then but you're
still looking at 250 notes, I'd have thought.

Lower range boots are much more likely to be used as high-level
rentals, as they're both cheaper and much more likely to be what the
    pnuter needs[1].
Sure, a good boot fitter is trained about feet. My point was that once
you've had boots fitted properly you'll be able to know what's going
to work for yourself, not for anyone else.

    [1] Note I don't say want. I'm sure I didn't need race level boots
when I got my fisrt pair of them.

Continental have been charging cattle class passengers for drinks for
at least the last 4 years. They pissed me off so much that I changed
    airline for my return trip.

  12. I've been looking for something similar but there are some nasty
surprises out there. The weather is sh*t in the Caribbean at the mo and will be for some
    time.
    http://weather.yahoo.com/forecast/DRXX0015.html

It just an example but it's turned unseasonably wet out there.

Further south is better nearer south America
    Yup! You're buggered.

There are some very good last minute deals out there, especially if you
want to return just before Christmas, again not what you want.

  13. If you look around you can pay that for a good holiday.

Remember that is what the travel agent was charged for it, before he
sold it to you, that nice £999 per person holiday.
