  2. It took Harold ages to get it right - for decades Harolds were prone to
bearing failure if the power output was upped to anywhere near the level
of an unforked conrod engine. Bearing area is the key; plus I believe
(though I stand to be corrected), that there is a problem with excessive
oil leakage from the fork area, leading to bearing oil film loss.

  3. Heh. On my R80RT I fitted R100 barrels, pistons and heads. The extra
torque, combined with the R80's gearing, made traffic a hoot.

Oddly enough, because of the better breathing once I'd fitted the R100
carbs to the above, the fuel consumption went from 40mpg (std R80) to
    50mpg (R80/100hybrid).

  4. Hmm. I'm (unsuccessfully) looking for a downside here...

  5. The only downside I found was top speed. It wouldn't go any faster than
the R80. That didn't bother me anyway, since most of my mileage was
    80mph motorway work.

Your exit is South and West.

    There is a barrel.

    There is a small dog.

What do you want to do?

It is dark. Your (head) light sputters and goes out.

You have been eaten by a Grue.

    Regards,

  10. My old R100RS only ever did 30 to 32 to the gallon if I was lucky.

  12. Different riding styles. Economy was always important when I was putting
1000 to 1500 miles per week on the odometer.

  13. Too true. When I ran in my FJ12 I was getting 70 plus mpg. Since then
I'm normally in the upper 30s, 40 plus on a long 'South of France' run.

  14. I could get reasonable MPG if I concentrated on keeping the speed down.
Unfortunately, for the Evil Twin, 90mph is good...
