    *heh* two problems with that.
    1. Im not sure I want one quite that bad :) and
    2. The reason Im not buying the bike i really really wanted (£350) is cos
the fucking volvo has decided that it wants the engine oil to go all the way
through the cooling system and explode out the coolant expansion tank!
    (Volvo wanted £400!)
    See 1.;-)

    Automatic, is it?

If so, it'll be the rad that's fecked - should be able to pick one up, if
not a whole car, for peanuts.

Mountain bikes are for women and children.
To go fast you need one of these:
    http://www.discountbicycles.co.uk/jshopfiles/Fausto_Coppi_Road_Bikes.htm

Then you will want some Shimano SPD pedals and shoes,
a SigmaSport computer, and plenty of lycra so you can show off
    your des.jpg's.

My cycling for health has cost about a quid per mile this year.
    Cheaper to take a taxi!

    Tis indeed.
Rads definitely fecked, ordered a new one today from place in hitchin and
will be picking it up on tuesday afternoon. Hoping that the headgaskets not
gone too, as apparantly this could also be the problem, still wtf. If i dont
fix the fucker its just a big paperweight on wheels!

As for peanuts, I've yet to see an 850 T5 for less than £1800 (other than
    mine that is)

**** no, had a racer and found it difficult on the wrists as there was too
much weight forward. Thats exactly what i need to avoid this time what with
having broken one wrist last year and not having a full range of movement in
    it.

Not to discourage you or anything, but if you can't find time to go to
    the gym, you won't cycle.

Cycling is more time consuming than going to a gym. It takes couple
of hours of my nights several times a week and half a day on Sunday
(which is why I'm posting at 8.30am on Sunday morning, I'm off out in
a sec). In comparison you can go to the gym for half an hour in your
    lunch break.

  10. Bedford Market, saturdays. Or that bike shop up behind the Polis
Station, or try a 39.99 special from
    http://www.sterlinghouse.co.uk/Default.asp?Action=AnyBike

Made in Vietnam, but good quality.
I got one from them for No.1 son, damn good value, quick delivery, but
self assembly so you need a modicum of mechanical knowhow. Come and
have a look at it if you like.

I will though. If im honest, maybe my not finding time has more to do with
seeing work people at the gym when i go, whom i dont want to meet as then we
just chat, etc. also, gyms boring as ****, same walls etc, i get no real
enjoyment out of it. whereas i feel motivated about the cycling, itll help
the kids learn, they'll motivate me, it will replace several of the
excercises i currently do to strengthen my knee etc etc.

Checked out already, dearer than a bike at peacocks auctions definitely.
too dear for what they are.
Yep already looked at them, but avoided only because it is a bit pot luck
and i really want to look at any bike i am going to buy.

I think Im going to hang out for the cycle sale again this saturday at the
auctions, should be able to pick up what I want for £30-£40 and get it home
    same day.

Ah, in that case you'll probably do alright. I don't go to a gym for
the same reasons, it's incredibly boring to me.

One suggestion... if you've got problems with your knee, make sure
when you get a bike you take it to the local _proper_[1] bike shop and
get them to set the riding position up correctly for you.

A badly setup bike will do a lot of damage.

    [1] ie, not Halfords.

The problem with cycling round the English countryside is if one gets
tired when one is a long way from home. In the gym, when tiredness
hits, stopping is a reasonable option!

  20. Well, yes, but thats new versus 2nd hand innit?
I saw a rack load for 70 squid.
For that money, Why? The styles vary only slightly, and the quality is
superb for the money. AND the one I got is Black.
Have you ever actually 'ridden' away a bike from Peacock's?

The next day is when the wheels fall off or the real owner turns up
    wanting it back.
