Didn't you say you carried your fishing poles on your Beemer? Got any
    picts?

Yes, I think I do. Basically, I used two pieces of PVC tubing about 2"
in diameter, drilled through the bottom and ran bolts through, and used
hose clamps to affix the tubes to the frame behind the seat. It holds
the rods up at an angle, so you don't have to worry about tailgaters
snapping them in half at a light.

If there's a binaries ng for bikes, I could post a pic or two.

You could e-mail them to me. muddy [underscore] cat [at] mindspring

A friend in the UK wants to start fishing and I wanted to show him how
    you haul the poles around.

Get a telescoping pole. There are some very good ones out there. I have a
9ft med weight pole that I use for fish to 10lbs that collapses to about
20in. It's a quality piece of equipment. For trout, I use a Quantum micro
(discontinued ...check out Daiwa) spin outfit that breaks down into a
12"x18" pack. There's lots of good stuff aimed at other markets that is
perfect for motorcyclists. Check out places that cater to back-packers.

Yes, those ARE nice! However, a couple pieces of PVC tubing is much,
much cheaper...not as slick, though. My freshwater rod is an antique
fiberglass number that breaks down and fits in my saddlebags. Tackle
box, ditto. I finally ditched the Big Box when I realized in a moment of
sanity that I only used about 2% of the stuff in there. I take a cooler
(optimistically for the trout) a net and a fishing chair. The bimmer is
perfect for going fishing, and the ride to the lake is so much more fun!
