Start saving your petrol money. It's only four-anna-bit months to Chimay.

  2. hehe.

at the moment, there's zero spare money, not helped but some thieveing pikey
scum making off with my big trolley jack.

I've also not yet done a top (? side end?) rebuild on the bike, which I was
thinking of doing - mind you, I could just carry on riding it making smoke,
    it'd be cheaper.

Sound like the rings. I've got a set for an R80 mono lurking in the shed if
    you want them.

  4. I did rings not that long ago. 'tis an R60/6, non-nikasil bores, so
probably the ones you have are not appropriate. I think that it's valve
guides, TBH. It smokes most coming on the power after over-run.

the plan (which is liable to get pushed back a year now) was to get the
heads reworked (or exchanged), hone the bores and fit new rings, and/or
rebore and replace pistons if it looked like it needed it. Last time it was
apart, there was no noticeable step in the bores, but I do know that there
are issues with the valve gear anyway.

    snip
as is the nature of such things.
Just curious, but when did 'issues' replace problems, snags, outstanding
tasks, stuff to do and other ways of saying that something isn't right
and needs to be sorted out?

I wonder if it was originally selected in certain circles for being a
neutral rather than emotionally-charged word, and inevitably acquired
the overtones - or perhaps undertones - that it now has.

    Probably a 1980s word?

As to smoke, and veering sluggishly back on-topic, does it pass MoT like
    that?

Ah but things have since moved on. One no longer has issues but challenges
    ;o)

Yeah.... I know... makes me cringe as well ;o)

"Cool. What we have here is an insurmountable opportunity..."
