Paging Apple bods

  1. A colleague has a new iMac with MacOS X Leopard installed. The old
machine was a white iMac PowerPC with OSX Panther. The migration
assistant was used to transfer all there settings from the old to the
    new machine.

Everything mostly worked or could be made to work. One thing just
won't though. When using "Connect to Server" to connect to a samba
share it just comes back with "you have entered an incorrect username
    or password".

Now, the username and password are correct. The machine with Panther
on it will connect and I can ssh to the server. The difference that I
see with the two OSes is that the window that opens to connect to the
samba share on Panther has a workgroup entry as well as username and
password entries. The Leopard system simply asks for a username and
    password.

So, how to get the Leopard machine to connect? Is there a way of
setting or entering the workgroup? Is not having the workgroup
    actually the problem?

Have you told the Samba server about this new machine?

  3. I shall put on my Jobsworth hat and say, "It's not up to me to do
that, that's handled by another department." But yes, the chaps in
charge of the Samba server were contacted when I originally found the
problem, so in a roundabout way they do know about it.

Is the Samba server in a domain and do you have the user prefixed with
    the domain?

  5. The information I have is that the server is a Unix server. I can ssh
in quite happily and see all the users files. It just won't work with
the "Connect to Server" on the Mac, but this is what the user needs as
    ssh means nothing to them.
