OK, I said I would do it, so I will.

I am proud to present round 1 of the general vote / muttering and shuffling of
    feet for ...

The UKRM (Northern division) Christmas 2002 Piss-Up.

Now, there are a number of feasible options, so can I get a rough show of hands
    for the following;

    1. A traditional piss-up in Newcastle, possibly with a meal involve somewhere.

    2. A traditional piss-up in a different location. Also possibly with food.

    3. An "at home" do.

    4. A meet somewhere followed by a ride-out (i.e. Meet at Hartside Cafe, have
a coffee, go and play with the traffic).

    5. Turning up at Cane's house, unexpectedly, talking in loud voices so that
all of his neighbours know that he is friends with Norvern mankies and then
demanding that he feeds us, gets us pissed and gives us all beds for the night.

I'm voting for 1, because 2 involves nobody getting pissed because it's too far
to get home, 3 means negociations with Lisa, 4 will be knee deep in snow and 5
is too far to ride and he might be out.

    Anybody else?

Looks like I have to admit to being a NM.
Bugger, too late and I've confessed to being a NM
So, how did it go, good night was it?

I think you may have missed the boat on this one... Proof positive that
    Northerner's don't think that quickly.

2002? I'd heard that they're a bit behind the times oop North, but
    this is ridiculous.

All three of you (so far) who picked up on this are hereby collectively
    *whoooooshed*

The point is that I promised to organise the Christmas 2002 party for some time
in January gone. I'm just a _little_ bit behind schedule.

The 2003 Christmas pissup is currently pencilled in for August 2005.

I'm quite proud of being a NM, always have been...
    Tonge in cheek, generally.

I'm also EKS, but I'm resting (and bored) at the moment, hence the
increase in visibility with my posts.
Anyway, if I can tag along, option 1 gets my 2d's worth.

Well yes you were, actually, old boy. This was the subject of some
discussion right here yesterday - and prolly the day before too.

look I was just thinking about this after you phoned me the other week
(wondering if you were going to manage to organise it this year) .
Will you stop reading my mind.

    I go with 1

This sounds good, as does anythign with riding bikes, but my chances of
making it are slim and I'd need crash space.

In best ukrm-er to DFV tradition, I offer "maybe".

    1 or 2, I'd guess.

Perhaps Durham, instead of Newcastle? Might be a bit more central for
    everyone.

Have you any idea how much a taxi from Durham would cost?

Unless, of course, you're DFVing to drive.

Hello, Skem Taxis, can you give me a price to Durham, and then pick me
    up again at midnight.

    Oh, I see.

I'll let you know nearer the time.

    <click, burr>

    B&B it.

Get a train from Durham to Newcastle, then share a taxi.
    I don't do DFV-ing any more.

  20. these sound fine - the location for option 2 will need to have some
reasonable relationship to the public transport network as I almost
certainly will not be riding my bike all the way to Newcastle in winter
riding conditions. I'll opt for taking 9½ hours by train - caused by a
snowflake falling out of the sky and the wind blowing faster than 10mph.

I trust Mr Irvine is providing me with sumptuous free accommodation
after his abrasive rebuke earlier this week? ;-)
