    Including the Chimayisti.

Speedferries (www.speedferries.com) is running a special offer right
now. Any vehicle, any number of passengers, any time of year, any
length of journey, £19 each way.

Just booked my Chimay crossing (out 1410 on Friday 14 July, back 1655
    on the 16th).

Worth pointing out that 14 July is, of course, Bastille Day, so
*everything* will be shut in France, and probably over the entire
weekend. Breakdowns are thus probably not a good idea.

Not quite /any/ vehicle unfortunately, otherwise my annual 'how to get
5 MVs to Switzerland' quandry would've just become much, much cheaper.

    They're discriminating against MVs?

Only when they're surrounded by a large metal object called a van.

why don't you take the bikes on the ferry and hire a van in France?

We did look into that last year, but it all looked far too complicated.
For a start we'd need a van big enough for 5 bikes (very big &
expensive), 5 people and enough luggage for those people for 2 weeks.
Then there's the problem of getting the luggage/spare silencers etc
(for a trackday) to the ferry port. Hiring a van here & using a 3 bike
trailer worked out cheaper & a lot less hassle, once we finally found
    one with a towbar.

  9. Well, I must go there at least 5 times a year. Can I take them
    across serially for you?

    (It's "quandary", by the way.)

Format as previous years for me: Trundle as far as Cambrai or thereabouts
on the Friday, leisurely bimble to Chimay on Sat, all the way home on
    Monday.

Sedan last year, and otherwise being conducted about the place by Statto.
Bit of a bugger. Hopefully it will have something resembling a working
    front brake by then.

Most European countries have never got into the habit of shifting
holidays to the nearest Monday. I wish they would. Another wierd
thing, at least in our company, is getting an afternoon off the day
before a holiday. Like today. Most people don't bother going in at
all, instead just flexing the half day.

Not in France. Which whilst it's a bummer, can be worse on certain
years where bank holidays can fall on weekends. Like last year, for
    example.

The Germans whine bitterly that it's not fair the Brits get their bank
holidays 'carried over' should they fall on a weekend. Of course the
fuckers miss the fact that they get more holidays in the first place...

Heh, I think that's the same in France.

Ah yes, here the numbers are:

    http://www.globalsources.com/TNTLIST/DIRECTORIES/TRAVEL/HOLIDAYS.HTM

11 in France, 8 in the UK and 10 in Germany.

Oh, not to rub it in or anything, but in my new job, I get 21 days off,
extra per year for the 35 hour week in France. Bloody hell! Even in my
old co, I got only 12...
