Actually we enjoy the mere function of Packing our motorcycle, for a
trip. The longer the trip, of course, means more planning. I don't like
trailers, so If I cannot get it all on the twoWheeled vehicle, I leave
it on the bed,(grin). Another factor is having the lovely wife as my
passenger and road guide, and place to eat, guide(grin)! This certainly
entails more planning of what we can take and cannot.

Another factor is riding in Colder weather. ya gotta start out in the
Leather, but later around noon, usually, one starts to remove stuff, and
now: Gotta pack them. Our Leather chaps are the cheap ones, the buffalo
patched ones, and let me tell ya', they don't roll up very small in
radius. But I tie them on top of my new Bags, that have handles, to tie
2, with black shoe strings. Reason for shoe strings, they're easier, to
pack as well vs. Reg Ties, the reg ties, take up 5 times the room.
Packing is part of the fun for us.

It's not so much what you pack as where you pack it. Long days on the
road mean from time to time you need to get stuff out of your bags.
You touched on shedding a few layers as the weather changes. Add to
that all of the stuff that needs to be accessible, rain gear, sun
screen, water, maps, gloves, cell phone, the list goes on.

The RSV has lots of storage space and I can fit almost everything in
the hard bags. What makes it even easier are the bag liners. I just
pack all my stuff in them and then slide them into the hard bags. The
downside of the Venture is if I have anything packed on the back seat
like a tent and sleeping bag I can't open the trunk.

I think it was Beemer who mentioned those nylon cargo nets. After
seeing a friend use one, it is high on my list of must haves for the
    next long trip.

‘‘Calgary, that's the part I was referring to as being a fun
part to us. Planning ahead, packing the heavier stuff on bottom, rain
gear accessible like you mentioned and so 4th. I have to pack a little
more to the old fashoined way, not having hard bags, or a trunk. To me,
that would be simple. But packing in Leather bags, and a leather/like
back rest pack takes a little more talent, in my opinion. PLUS, having
the coPilot with me, on every trip. You know that creates a little more
need for good packing skills (wink)! Can't wait till she is riding her
own, and that will solve, me having to wear the same wranglers for a
    week,(grin), get it? BJAY!
