The mother of storms is heading your way (in the South at least,
probably). Sunny Devon is now soggy Devon. I was startled away at 3am with
a thunderclap that shook the house for 10secs, and it was raging all
night. The last big one was an hour ago, and the rain that came with it
has left localised flooding. I don't recall ever hearing thunder that
    loud consistently over hours.

Always a dissappointment when you've paid your penny.

What's the story with insurance and hail damage in the UK as a matter of
    interest?

In SA we used to occasionally get golf ball sized hail which would, funnily
    enough, dent cars.

Now the forecast for later is "large hail" so I am a bit concerned...

At a guess, they'd prolly claim it's an act of God or something, and
    weasel out of paying.
    WHAT ABOUT THE CHILDREN!?
    Get your brolly out.

    Yeah it dented them too.

Bloody painful and in some cases fatal.

There's a cracking thunderstorm story in today's Telegraph.

Funeral procession in Lubljana, Slovenia; geezer toting large metal
cross in procession; clap of thunder, bolt of lighting; cross-toting
    geezer struck down dead.

    Excellent.

From the sound of it, it has reached the M25.

There has been a quite dramatic change in the air here and anything that
flies is in the process of landing in an awful hurry. It won't be long
    now.

I like a good thunderstorm me.

  11. Oh good. I'm so glad I don't have to drive anywhere near there any
    more..
So do I - but our poor little Staffie cross dog hates them - she'll be
    going mental by now.

With a bit of luck I might have some of me own, I have two cameras ready
to roll. All I need now is a storm and oddly it is back to clear blue
skies again and redoing all the clocks because we had second or two of
missing electric in the middle of it and every fucking alarm in the
    county is still going off.

Looks like you could be disappointed - it's petered out as it got near
    London.

Looks like the Midlands had some interesting weather at some point today
    though.

  18. In uk.rec.motorcycles, Switters amazed us all with this pearl of wisdom:
The sky went very yellow at about midday and the temperature dropped
noticeably. About two hours ago there were about three drops of rain I
counted coming out of the sky and that was it.

Yep, I saw some jolly good ones in Florida when I visited #1 daughter.
Panama (the country) had a few nice storms when I was there too. One
strike hit the building next to my hotel, I was standing on the balcony
looking at the storm. The shock wave put me back a few feet.
