    Gday All,
Just got this weekend free and decided it's high time I rode the Oxley.
What's the best way to attack it?
I've heard East-west is the best way but I'm wondering about little things
like the best route to Port Macquarie on the Saturday. Should I tackle the
Oxley Saturday or Sunday? Cheap place to stay that's rider friendly?
Good place to have a beer?
I'm planning on leaving about 8 from Sydney and currently thinking of taking
    the putty.
    Any help would be appreciated!

    Cheers
    Phil

    on a bike.
do it both ways 2-3 times... East west is uphill.. depends on what you
    like.
why not head out the putty road up through singleton, then down the
road, back and into walcha for the night, then do it again sunday, and
    home the putty road?
    New england hotel Walcha.
New England hotel Walcha or Long Flat pub.

I thought new england was great, was only 20bucks overnite last i was there,
and they gave us a shed to lock the bikes up in overnite.
Just watch the "dark side" of the mountain, its been known to have black ice
on the road in winter and it gets no sun for most (all?) of the day

Gday ... will be heading up the oxley around 10ish from port mac on sunday.

I'll be taking it easy as I'm still finding my feat on the GSXF - this will
be the first run that's not 5mins to work and back *grin*.

If you see a silver gsx750f with a tall lanky streak of pelican shit riding
    it, that'll be me!!!!

What are you on, ill keep at eye out for you? --- Duh re-read your post...

    Hi Phil

I'll be doing 2 laps of the Oxley on Saturday (and another on Sunday)
this weekend. You're welcome to join up with us. We'll be staying in
Armidale Sat at my sister's so I'm sorry I can't offer accomodation but
    you're welcome to join us.

As for the best route, I suggest you go Putty, Singleton, Dungog,
Gloucester, Walcha, Wauchope, turn around and go back to Walcha and
    stay the night :)

(Walcha to Wauchope is the Oxley in case you weren't aware)

Sounds fair at this time of year it probably is slippery.

We'll be leaving Armidale Sunday morning, I'm not dead sure what time
we'll get to Wauchope - may be a bit late for you (probably closer to
    12 than 10)

From each direction, then decide for yourself. If still undecided, repeat.

Keep an eye out for a slate coloured XR6T on the Putty (unmarked of course).

They tricks he is using (yes, I talked to him) is to travel slowly on the
80km/h section an then knab bikers who overtake/speed past him.
He then gets you for overtake double lines and usually at least a 30km/h +
    over speed offence.

BTW... no premium fuel available between Windsor and Singleton. None at
    Colo River or Halfway Roadhouse

Sounds good to me. Not entirely sure how long it'll take me to get there.
The putty-singleton-dungog-gloucester to Walcha route looks damn good. Not
sure when that'll put me into Walcha but I'll keep an eye out for everyone.
At the very least we might catch up for a brew at the New england pub.
    I'll be on a matte black VTR1000F, silver/grey helmet.

It's not a trick as such. There are plenty of cars which travel around
winding mountainous roads at less than the posted speed limit. If you're dumb
enough to go barrelling past cars over double lines without first having at
least a cursory glance at the occupants you're probably getting what you
deserve, or deserving what you get.

    what about Broke ?
Last time I was there they had run out of ULP and had PULP only. First time
    I've ever seen that.
