Own up, who has named their steed?

  1. According to Wikipedia... a virago was a strong, brave, or warlike woman and
the term was later used to refer to a noisy, bossy, and scolding woman. It
is closely related to termagant, which is a quarrelsome, scolding woman and
shrew, which is a nagging woman.

So, I was thinking "Sybil" :)

  2. One of my first bikes (LC125) was named after my first girlfriend "Nikki".

It was noisey, smoked a lot, looked a bit tatty, and was prone to nip up and
throw you off without notice mid ride.

I don't usually name bikes because it's silly. However, my ZX10R's
registration looks like Flossie. So that's her name now.

Well, the Wing is "The Black Pig", The Z200 is "Sybian", and the VFR is
"Porco Rosso". I haven't named the outfit yet, but I'm sure something will
    come eventually.

  6. I was going to name the 1GB mini-SD card in my mobile phone "Jonathan",
and my copy of the January editon of Bike magazine "Sarah", but then I
realised people who name assign names to random posessions are all
    freaky weirdo mentalists.

What's wrong with calling it "my motorbike" (or "my Virago", or "my red
VFR", or similar if you have multiple bikes and need to be more
specific about which one you're referring to)? You freaky weirdo
    mentalist.

Mine is "Boris" as in Boris The Blade, a character in a film Ace won't

The last name I called one of mine was "Fucking Bastard Cunting Piece of
Crap". Mind you, it was refusing to start at the time.

  10. Anthropormorphism, innit? Whilst my bike is just a collection of parts
bolted together, when I push the starter it becomes animate; it moves, it
makes a good sound, it pleases me. If people see their bikes as just a means
of transport then perhaps they're less inclined to name them? Besides, I
don't *call* it Sybil, it's "my bike" to most others, and I certainly don't
call it "she". It's named by me and for me.

From a young age I was fascinated by engines and the fact that a very few
pieces of metal could be made to "live". Something that changes its
behaviour to the extent that engines do, with just the addition of liquid,
air, and electricity, deserves to be given a bit of admiration, IMO. Not
sure I'd name a generator though, or a magazine or an SD card for that
matter; the naming comes from emotional attachment.

Perhaps your interesting reaction indicates emotional difficulties? Do you
have problems sharing? Becoming attached? Would you like to lay on my couch?
    Tell me about your father...

    ;)

  11. One of my favourite parts of the whole film is when Boris goes nuts (ok,
more nuts) and marches up to his house making "Haha!" noises, ranting in
Russian, before dealing with Tommy. Fantastic.

  16. Looking that up I came across Sibylline Books and a name that'd
suit Platy's outfit: Tarquinius Superbus. I think I'd put the accent on
the second word differently than the Romans, tho'...
