The UKRM sidecar hill climb team project has foundered. The Welsh Hillclimb championship winning outfit has been sold. Sounds like it was only stuck on Ebay as a classified as a back up for local grapevine advertising. Ears should still be kept to the ground and eyes peeled for something similar. Still no excuses for debutante uphill racers not to present themselves with suitable solo machinery at Hartland Quay in early April. Date to be confirmed after the NHCA AGM this Saturday. -- +----------------------------------------------------------------+ | Pete Fisher at Home: | | Voxan Roadster Gilera Nordwest * 2 Yamaha WR250Z | | Gilera GFR * 2 Moto Morini 2C/375 Morini 350 "Forgotten Error" | +----------------------------------------------------------------+

Hoh yus. Also methanol fuel (or have the ACU killjoys changed that yet?). E85 certainly is. Loan of a Nordwest might be arranged for a deserving case ICBA to prepare it (mainly needs the front calipers freeing off after the reverse ski run that was hartland last April). -- +----------------------------------------------------------------+ | Pete Fisher at Home: | | Voxan Roadster Gilera Nordwest * 2 Yamaha WR250Z | | Gilera GFR * 2 Moto Morini 2C/375 Morini 350 "Forgotten Error" | +----------------------------------------------------------------+
You can also fit a supercharger if you want. Day licence and membership available for Hartland under the "Give it a Go" scheme. Clothing and helmet requirements as previously discussed. -- +----------------------------------------------------------------+ | Pete Fisher at Home: | | Voxan Roadster Gilera Nordwest * 2 Yamaha WR250Z | | Gilera GFR * 2 Moto Morini 2C/375 Morini 350 "Forgotten Error" | +----------------------------------------------------------------+
On Wed, 14 Jan 2009 09:12:43 +0000, Pete Fisher Well FFS what's the point in me learning how to put them out then!
All is not lost, hope springs eternal. In any case, you are more than welcome to extinguish the flames from my solo should it threaten self immolation at Pardon. <awaits results of UKRM innuendo parser> -- +----------------------------------------------------------------+ | Pete Fisher at Home: | | Voxan Roadster Gilera Nordwest * 2 Yamaha WR250Z | | Gilera GFR * 2 Moto Morini 2C/375 Morini 350 "Forgotten Error" | +----------------------------------------------------------------+
Fairly, when it comes to the basics like brakes that work, twist grips that snap shut and large components in danger of falling off. Reasonably relaxed about the minutiae of shark tooth sprocket guards and precision specification of racing numbers. Eh? Was that meant to read extrication? -- +----------------------------------------------------------------+ | Pete Fisher at Home: | | Voxan Roadster Gilera Nordwest * 2 Yamaha WR250Z | | Gilera GFR * 2 Moto Morini 2C/375 Morini 350 "Forgotten Error" | +----------------------------------------------------------------+
Translation: "getting ones shit together".
I see it now. Very positive. Hartland looks like being April 5th, so if I am going to do it again this year I have to leave for the Easter hols late rather than coming back from them early. A very long range weather forecast would be invaluable. -- +----------------------------------------------------------------+ | Pete Fisher at Home: | | Voxan Roadster Gilera Nordwest * 2 Yamaha WR250Z | | Gilera GFR * 2 Moto Morini 2C/375 Morini 350 "Forgotten Error" | +----------------------------------------------------------------+
Hmmm. Something to aim for. Based on my performance to date on any project I've ever embarked on, don't hold your breath...

A very long range weather forecast would be invaluable.
I'll try to get a sneak preview of power station outages I'm supposed to be attending and see if I can get a couple of days off. The only problem is that it's a **** of a long way to ride there on the KTM and I'm certainly not going to try using the 10R on a hill climb.
See comment re possible availability of a Nordwest. Champ pronounced it not too bad a bike to ride, although not competitive. -- +----------------------------------------------------------------+ | Pete Fisher at Home: | | Voxan Roadster Gilera Nordwest * 2 Yamaha WR250Z | | Gilera GFR * 2 Moto Morini 2C/375 Morini 350 "Forgotten Error" | +----------------------------------------------------------------+
Ha, like I'd be able to do justice to anything competitive. If nobody else grabs a ride on it and I'm not working we'll have to talk about the idea.
As it is a two batch per run meeting, I was thinking of taking it as well as the Morini anyway, as I did last year. I went surprisingly well on it. So a shared ride might even be possible. I'll get stuck in to fettling the front brakes. Not that you really need them anywhere but after the finish. BTW, someone has been posting old magazine articles about hill climbs on the NHCA forum. There is one reporting the September 1980 Wiscombe event and mentioning my original Morini. The chap who posted it was also riding on the day and still had all the times. Seems that from 1980 to 2008 I have slowed down by about a second there (a factor of approximately 2%) , on a Morini at least. I blame the still not fully sorted ignition, and missed gear changes resulting from modern Sidi Vertebra boots combined with not perfectly adjusted Tarozzi rearsets, and 28 years of wear and tear (on the rider). -- +----------------------------------------------------------------+ | Pete Fisher at Home: | | Voxan Roadster Gilera Nordwest * 2 Yamaha WR250Z | | Gilera GFR * 2 Moto Morini 2C/375 Morini 350 "Forgotten Error" | +----------------------------------------------------------------+
Out of curiosity, what actually happens at a hill climb? does one get to ride or walk the course first, or is it all an exciting surprise?
