Surely there can't be TWO Des Coughlan's in Paris?

I had two letters published in Superbike back in 1985 or 1986, can't
    remember which.

You will only get upset. Someone will have sub-edited your
punctuation so that your letter looks right.

And translated it to English, natch.

It's 22:20 - I'm not going out to buy it now.

I'll buy it on Wednesday probably when I go back to work, but not because
    your letter is in it.
    It's _highly_ likely it's a whinge anyway.

Reminds me, i was going to subscribe as the top they were offering looked
quite decent. Oh well, maybe they've got a better offer this month.

It was to do with the Ultimate Streetbike Challenge. I was going to
enter my then current steed against Bill Hunter's Spondon turbo GSX1100
thing. One of them had a picture of my bike very close by, you probably
won't recognise the bike, but you'll know what letter it is in
connection with despite there not being a caption.

  12. That was an *amazing* bike. I was doing the UltStreet commentating at
    the time.

He was being sponsored by Sealink, and Metzeler was sending him over
their latest development road tyres, to see how they lasted.

He took the bike to Williams Honda (as then was) who asked how much
power it was producing (it was bored out to about 1300cc as well as
being turbo'd, IIRC) and he told them that it was knocking out about
    180bhp at the rear wheel.

They laughed and guaranteed him they could make it produce 500bhp[1],
and it would still be tractable for the street - oh, and they'd have to
throw away everything except maybe the crankcases.

    Two small snags:

    1. They wanted ukp25,000 up front befoe they lifted an angle grinder.
    2. Did he know anyone who made a tyre to handle that sort of output?

So he asked Sealink, who told him to **** off, and he asked Metzeler,
    who just laughed.

[1] Remember that Nigel Mansell's 1.5 litre engine was producing
something like 800bhp, and as much as 1000bhp for qualifying.

You'll be the twat who made sarky comments about me being chased up the
runway by a light aircraft[1] at the Cranfield Airfield round in 1987
    then?

[1] I rode the bike to the bogs, and on the way back took a wrong turn
on the perimeter road that left me on a working airstrip with a plane in
full "**** off out of the way you dozy ****, I'm about to take off" mode
coming at me from behind. I pulled right over to the side and it shot
past then took off a couple of seconds later. I hurridly made my way
back to the bike park and hid my GSX750EFE amongst as many other blue
    and white bikes as possible.

  15. Heh. No, I only did Santa Pod and Long Marston (as then was).

I still remember clearing my throat, tapping the mike, and cheerily
saying Good Morning to the thousands of spectators and cordially
    welcoming them to Santa Pod....

.....when we were at Long Marston.
    Heh. Twonk.
