  2. About £300? Could be worse[1]. Like I said, I'm sure I can bring it back
    in September.

I *think* that the motor housing can be glued back together - if not,
they're $72, or $54 from the place Mark posted.

Ouch, indeed. It still confuses me how a gang of bikers riding
together did not chase down the bastard that did it. And at what point
is it worth putting a claim in to insurance?

  8. Damage looks limited to the panel and a couple of components behind it.
The problem is that this being a sort of offical grey import by Honda
UK, from excess US, stock, there aren't any panels in Jewish Racing Gold
    in the UK.

I'm going to the US in early September, and our friends in Albuquerque
are holding a BMW K1100LKT 'Comfort' seat for me, as it was an utter
    steal on eBay:

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/140528721647

and transatlantic postage was, erm, expensive.

So if Dodger can source the bits in the US, and get them sent to NM, I'm
sure our friends can stash them in the garage alongside the K seat, and
then I'll organise the longest UR delivery in ukrm history.

Meanwhile, gaffa tape over the hole in the fairing.

    more than that surely?
obviously you're going to opt for Black while you have the chance, so the
rest will have to be changed at the same time :)

UKRM riding together is an assortment of bikes scattered over most of
the nearby french countryside, some of them may even be going in the
correct direction. I was following Dodger just before the incident, we
entered the peage in different lanes so that I exited first. I 1/2
expected his headlight to appear behind me but can't say I was
concerned when it didn't. As I understand it the shrapnel hit as he
was heading off from the peage.

Well, firstly, there's no evidence that it actually came *from* the
truck in front of me. All I saw was something blurry behind a truck,
and then "Whoomph" as it embedded itself in the fairing. Luckily (heh)
it stopped about 3/8" from the rhs radiator.

Secondly, it happen when I was flying solo(as Boots had passed me
going through the toll gates), and by the time Ant, Zym and Oggers
came past, the truck had long gone (off the autoroute, and through a
toll gate), and all I could offer as a decription would have been
"Big, articuated truck". They coould have ridden all over northern
France stopping various trucks at random.

    Insurance? It's a $500 panel (around £350) and I have a £350 excess on
    the GL1800.

Frankly, I'm just content not to be in a hospital bed, or a box.

Finally, riding through that hailstorm with a dark, mirrored visor was
more scary than the flying metalwork incident. Even when stopped in an
emergency lay-by it was hateful - like being cornered in a mad
    paintball frenzy.

Of course, when we got going again, stopped for a coffee some two
miles up the road, the rain/hail stopped, and the sun came out.

This did, however, enable me to refit my left contact lens the right
way round - which helped visibility no end, and reduced my blink rate
    more than somewhat.

I'm deeply chuffed with my new beastie, however - it's ability to
"cruise" at 90+ with no drama, and its general demeanour on the road
in a variety of conditions and surfaces (ref Saturday's little
trundle) is most impressive. The way it drags out of corners is
something else, considering the all up weight of the thing.

Madam pronounced it comfy, and made full use of the heated seat when
    required.

Alternatively if they're getting a little funny about having someone
supposedly from the UK order parts to be sent to a US address, if Dodger
can get me the part numbers I should be able to get them and stash them
here until it's time to send them to NM.

Well, in that case we can ship them via muddycat, he's a couple of
hundred miles further West as a very drunk crow flies.

Or, more specially, Solarfilm or industrial strength similar. I am sure
someone who knows what it is will be able to google for the right thing
and come up with some carbon flavoured ones for a proper colour match.

Ah. Got the impression the others were close behind.
Amen. It really does look like the Flying Fickle Finger of Fate.
You should keep it and have it chromed. For real. ;-)

BTW, Ron Ayers sells the cowl for $372. I think Mr Olson may know an
    even cheaper supplier.

I think they were among the last off the ferry, and the way it tends to
work on a UKRM run is people bunch into groups of 1, 2 or 3 and meet up
at the final location, rather than ride in convoy.

The three of us who stopped had been waiting for the Bonwicks after
getting off the boat, not realising they'd already fucked off. The
cunts. So we were pretty much bringing up the rear, and when I saw the
Wing parked on the hard shoulder I figured we should probably stop, as
there might not be anyone else (from the group) behind us.

That particular feature on the current Wing seems to have malfunctioned.
