I want to ebay my car; which is rubbish. It'll be a £1 start and if
anyone will take it away I shall be happy.

However, I think I'll have more chance should I be able to say it will
    *start*.

It's been standing for a few months and doesn't have enough charge to
pop the locks on the central locking.

I do have a jump pack thing, but I don't have a *charger*.

The jump pack will get it to crank over by maybe a cylinders worth
before it sticks. Pumps and things seem to run, and whirring noises
    happen before it turns over.

I should really consider forking out for an optimate to keep my current
and all my shiny future bikes tip top and happy, but being the cheap
skate I am, I wonder if a bike optimate would be up to the task of
conditioning a *car* battery? Thus saving me organising friends and jump
leads and all that faff. Two birds and all that.

I do not have any handy cliffs or canals close by to roll the car off/into.

It should keep a car battery in decent shape, but if the battery is heavily
discharged, it might take a while to get it charged up compared to a car
charger. This from a phone call I had with the manufacturer yesterday when I
was deciding whether to buy an Optimate or an Accumate.

  3. Reflects my real life experience when trying to charge a car battery
with my Optimate, took a lot longer but got there in the end, it was a
    newish battery though.

If you can be bothered to take the battery of the car and give it to a
complete stranger and live roughly near the trafford centre I can stick it
on charge for you at work. Email me if your interested thunder ace _ 14 at

It will charge a car battery but if it's as discharged as you say, I'd
list the car next weekend... It'll take an awfully long time to recharge
    that way.

My RX7 convertible tends to drain its battery within a few weeks and
every that happens and I remember, it'll take 2-3 days at least to
    recharge.
    Move somewhere less pikey :)

I have an optimate that's just brought a car back to life, but as far as
I am aware it is a 12V one and not particularly "car" or "bike".

*less*? Or can you assess the quality of an area by it's collection of
    canals and cliffs?

We got the typewriter blender fired up by jumping it from a rather tidy
VW golf, ran it for 20 mins or so, turned it off and watched it fail to
    start again.

I'll just list it as 'running' but if you want proof bring jump leads
'cause I'm not buying a scrapper a new battery!

AA chap and Ford actually told me that a normal car battery charger
wouldn't charge the battery in my Fiesta. Apparently it needs some
    super high charge or summat.

They must be really pikey scrap yard operators round your way. Dealers
are paying a minimum of 100 quid for any scrap car in these parts and
more if it has a cat (in the exhaust not behind the wheel). It's the
price of steel apparently. Have you checked the adverts in your local
    paper?

Perhaps you are hoping for more than that.
