OTish: Antifreeze

  1. When the radiator on my 99 Golf GTI developed a leak the VW Main Dealer told
me to top it up with tap water.

Floor to 10 foot ceiling around a 12'6" foot bay, *triple* lined, double
length fabric. Very heavy, quality fabric and a couple of impressive rope
tiebacks. Plus a rail that had to be forged to fit the bay, which was
about £300 of it, what with finials, rings, brackets etc. Curtains are
indeed a piece of piss to make (although the headers of these are a bit
fancy like) but these were too big for Al to do because they are just too
unwieldy and weigh a ton, it's a two person job. The labour in fabrication
    was only about £200.

Twelve hundred quid can only be "really appalling" if you know what it was
spent on, which you didn't at the time of comment.....

  6. Rubbish! By coincidence I was (I have to admit) looking for tellies
yesterday. There's loads in 4:3 in Dixons and the like and they're cheap
as chips. There's also a raft of them on eBay.
Well give her what she wants and buy a SOBlack secondhand telly and use
the time to persuade her that a new widescreen one is the way to go (do
you have any mutual friends with widescreen?), watch some soppy chick
flick on a widescreen. Failing that, buy the widescreen anyway and let
her spend £300 on soft furnishings, you might as well be comfortable ;o)

  8. In the hope you'd be back for a new radiator eventually, the old one
having furred up in the meantime.

We've already got one widescreen, she's sold on the concept just not the
size. And she's more the historical drama type.

But this is all by the by: New WS TV arrives tomorrow :)

Fair enough. Although Sarah continues to maintain that she could do it for
    less...
Yes I did: it was spent on "curtains". You could get a very presentable SOB
    for that money.

  16. Heh, in the end I took it to the independant VW people next door for a new
rad as it was using as much water as it uses oil [1].

    [1] A lot
