OT Xananews filters

Trying to make Xananews either not download, or mark ignore, threads
that are cross-posted to more than three newsgroups. Can SWK post
details of how I can do that?

Actually select Tools - Options - Default Settings - Filters and you
can creat a filter that won't download posts that are cross-posted to
'x' groups. I haven't actually tried this to see it work though.

If anyone else is interested it appears it can't be done easily, say by
having a filter to drop posts with more than x cross-posts ... just
have to do it by unique text or particular newsgroup I expect.

I can't see anything but that doesn't mean it isn't there. Once a
filter is set, this can be applied on a per-newsgroup or per-server
basis. Maybe this is what you were [mis]remembering?

It doesn't seem to work though as it's checked in my settings but I
still get cross-posted messages through as normal, unread messages.

 

I'm not familiar with Xananews, but I'm guessing that option is so that
if you've read a cross-posted item in one newsgroup, it's also marked as
read in any other of the cross-posted newsgroups to which you subscribe.

So does Xananews but it also has the facility to ignore/mark read/not
download posts crossposted to more than X number of groups. So you don't
even have to see the rantings of the bewildered if you so wish.

 

Yes it can.

Go to Tools > Options > Filters

Then "Add" the name of your filter in, er, "Filter Name" then select the
"Crosspost" radio button, then as the filter text enter 5 or 4 or
whatever the number of crossposts you want to ignore.

Then check "Don't Download" and "Don't Display".

I have mine set at 5 and a quick check shows I have no nutcase rantings
crossposted to more than 4 groups. Conclusive proof it works...

 

and select "Greater or Equal" - forgot to add that bit.
