    It seems to have finished at 13600, all items maxed out except the blue
    wavy thing (level 4) and the pipe (level 1).
    I got more by clicking on the pipe...?

    You have grasped the essence of it, I think. Each item has a number
    of steps required to "mature fully" and become fully developed - it
    seems to depend on when you take other items - they interact with each
    other, so the multi-step ones need longer, but benefit from the
    presence of others ... weird!
