This relates median cost of homes to median incomes in major cities
    world-wide.

Factor in high interest rates, very high taxation, and middle-class welfare
for oldies, and you'll soon see why a new UJM is a bit of a stretch.

    It saddens me.

  3. So how do you think I feel with almost enough for a deposit on a
$150,000 house in Westport, NZ. Stuck in rental accomm (with rising
interest rates and house prices all over NZ & Aust) in Melb and with
probably only 10 years left to keep working towards being in my own
home and debt free before I retire.

I reckon all Aussie motorcyclists should be thinking of me when they
    plan their next touring holiday!!

    Kind regards

I know a guy who bought a house just out of Invercargill for $25,000 a few
    of years a ago.

With inflation the cost could be up around $30,000 now and you'd only have
to cost in a extra Swandri..

    Roads aren't too bad either.

I live in a small country town called Griffith, POp 24,000ppl

We have a macca's, KFC and an eagle boys
Coles, Wollies and Bigw and a few odd shops.

We dont have a cinima, we dont even get ch10, only abc,sbs and 9 with some
hybred channel controlled by 9 with bits of 7 in it, and 4x the ads over the
    programs.

To buy a fibro house in a shit area, is about 250,000
To buy a normal house in a normal area is about 500,000
You can find houses worth 1,000,000 here that you would only pay 250,000
    else were.

Everything else is expencive here, food were in the fruit fly exclusion zone
so cant bring that in, petrol is $1.20

Rent starts at $250 per week. For a town that has nothing, it sure is
expencive. I live 35k's out of town to afford the rent. about 30 minute
    drive..

Our roads are shiiit for bikes, there all flat, bumpy and have no corners. I
have 1 corner over a railway line to get home in 35k's appart from turn
    offs.

How am i supose to afford to buy a house?

Good to see Rodentland featuring strongly in the top rank!
Interesting that the bottom 26 cities are in the U.S. of A. Don't
they have places in Sumatra going cheap at the mo?

    And then there's this:

to be preceded by lots of stories like this:

Sounds great, how old do you need to be, how much older than I am
now? It'll be a fucking miracle if I can keep working for another
20 years. I can see myself retiring to a half-deserted western
gerry slum like Manangatang, living on eggs and okra.
Those UJMs have always saddened me.

The peak oil theory is interesting, but there is now evidence that oil
is actually a renewable resource. Ain't got the links for the
articles, but a google search should find them.

Also large portions of Russia still haven't been explored, and there
are large oil fields still untapped over there.

Add into account once petrol hits $2 a litre, we're going to see less
4wd's and more cars like the Prius (hybrid electric/petrol, does about
    100km for 5.5 litres).

Petrol hitting $2 will also drive house prices down (household budget
can't afford the petrol) Petrol at $2 is the same as putting the rates
up a percent or two. At $2 a liter think it's around $350 to fill up a
    prado.

All in all, can't complain since about the only thing I use the car for
is groceries. (okay the fiancee drives to work, but she's doing her
L's at the end of the month).

Well, one suspects that they've picked USA, Australia and NZ for
a reason. I'd like to see where London and Tokyo fit on that scale.

Forced too for so many years, with my job :).

I pay 155 a week for a dog box house, it comes of the back of a truck, its
very hot or cold, with our -6 to 55 range and its generally either one end
    or the other.

Melbourne seems to be fairly decent living prices from what i seen, pitty im
stuck in nsw with my job :)...

oh and i get a car port with that 155, also a back yard i can play golf in,
helps with the ice and hail, but the dust storms, raining mud and the tumble
    weeds dont help.

Griffith, Most expencive country town out their.

  20. Hi Cam,

Have you checked Invercargill house prices recently? Thought not.

Anyway I don't want to live in Invercargill.

Westport is where we will be looking when we have a deposit.

How about them roads?? Best in the country IMHO.

    Kind regards
