  1. BBC4 have a series on the left atm. Tonight how TV dramas have changed
from the force to change policy (Cathy come home) to soma for the
masses. Followed by 'my Dad was a communist' with Aaronovitch, Sayle
et al. commenting. Good it was. I expected Auvache to pop up at any
    moment.

Johnny come latelys, who would want anything to do with them? It was my
Maternal Great Grandfather over a hundred years ago in the century
before last what was the one who was proud enough of his heritage to
exercise his right to kill stinking capitalist running dogs and to join
with is drinking buddy Karl[1] and become one of Britain's earliest
    commie bastards.

Fathers were commies indeed, I doubt they even know the meaning of the
    word.

[1] Family folklore I am afraid, no actual proof exists they ever met
but it is unlikely they didn't.

My father was in the remnants of the Red Clydesiders. IIRC the ILP were
effectively muzzled and swamped by the PLP in the 1930's. Shades of New
Labour and the constituency parties today.

My dad was the same. He remembers being a spectator at the Battle of
Cable street too. Bit young (at 9) to participate too actively. I don't
think he's paid up any more.

I don't think I've ever been eductated in the first place. They didn't
    have that at my school.

  14. It not so much that the eductation is painful - it taking out the old
